Additional Information

We feel a Kauai dish should uniquely encapsulate our abundant island’s tastes and cultural mix! Our gastronomic tour promotes the variety of edibles that our sustainable food forest yields, a compilation of fabulous foods imported from all parts of the world to Hawai`i. Amongst these are coffee, pineapple, tree tomato, kava, mamak’i, heart of palm, papaya, bananas and many more! Crucially, these demonstrate a way to cultivate food in alignment with nature, planted systematically in a way that removes dependence on imported fertilizers and pesticides. The tour culminates with a communal dining experience, where we relish the rich array of food diversity while understanding Common Ground’s mission. Every aspect of our food, from cooking oil to seasonings, is 100% sourced from Island - because it really should be. Don’t hesitate to grab a beer or wine from the bar and unwind into a serene island evening within a stunning farm atmosphere.

YES, yes, yes! - Completely superseded or expectations! Found common ground in an online search for things to do while in Kauai and wasn’t sure if it was going to be truly farm to table or another tourist trap/cheesy luau type of experience with crappy food. This was INCREDIBLE! True farm to table! Everything prepared was either from the common ground farm or from local farms on the island. Even down to the salt and oil used to prepare the food! And man was it delicious! We are from San Diego and are spoiled with incredible food and we pride ourselves in eating super clean. So this was right up our alley and quite honestly the best dinner and paid for experience we have ever had in Kauai - and we’ve been coming here yearly for the past 5 years! Oh and the farm tour before dinner was so cool! We learned so much about the farm, what they grow and how it grows. And how everything is intentionally planted, intertwined and has a purpose. Even my 9 year old son was captivated by the tour! I can’t recommend this experience enough! Especially to those who value good, real, clean food! 100 out of 10 recommended

An experience not to be missed! - Our tour guide Louis did an incredible job explaining agroforestry and it's critical role in our food supply. It was then followed by an amazing dinner created by chef Cody, who is a master at creating unique and delicious dishes with whatever the garden/forest has provided for the day. Please support this dynamic group of farmers and chefs who are working hard to restore our beautiful Earth and bring the very best food to our tables, your tastebuds and " gut buddies" will thank you!

Excellent service Excellent food - We had a wonderful time on the farm tour and learned a lot about regenerative agriculture. When we came back from the farm tour dinner was ready. The chef went over our meal that was served buffet style. Grass fed local meat was included in the dinner as well as plenty of vegan options. My husband said, “My dinner tonight is better than last nights luau dinner. “

First, some preaching; then, some good eats - I am not a raving environmentalist. I am not a member of Greenpeace. I try to “reduce, reuse and recycle” as much as possible, and encourage others to do the same. So I was a little out of my element here. The thesis is plausible: unless Hawaiians learn to change their way of doing food production, the islands will always be dependent on food imports and will not attain food security. They will continue to suffer the ravages of foreign “mono-crop” industrial giants, as exhibited by the pineapple and sugar cane plantations of the past millennium. Our guide managed to sneak in a couple of torpedoes aimed at the golf course industry, with its wasteful use of land for utterly frivolous purposes. I get the narrative about food security. I get the idea that locally sustainable small farms would improve food security and make efficient and sustainable use of arable land on Kauai. I believe that the industrialization of food production poses some real risks to the long term sustainability of the planet (even while it has made starvation rare, aside from arenas of human conflict). Here’s the thing: the day before taking this tour, I was treated to a round of golf by a friend. I saw acres and acres of green adjacent to scrubby little bushes and dry grassy areas. The whole thing appeared quite sustainable and environmentally friendly (I didn’t ask about their use of herbicides). While one could legitimately question the scale/quantities of land devoted to a “silly little game” in the bigger picture of ecological health, it came off sounding rather doctrinaire and self-righteous. So you will be educated, and kinda preached at, too. The ideas are sound; whether or not they are practical remains to be seen. In the meantime, it doesn’t hurt one to rethink one’s assumptions about food and food production, so I will keep an open mind. Speaking of keeping open, I kept my mouth open for the supper which followed the tour (it’s a very tiny tour, about 100 steps in all). The chef is terrific; this tour passes the taste test with flying colors!

The farm tour was... - The farm tour was informative and interesting! I enjoyed the experience and plant base food. However my partner and I don’t eat beef so we wish there was a fish alternative in the meal experience.
