Shibamata is a town abundant in nostalgia and adored by its inhabitants. The path that guides you features shops selling sweet dango dumplings and rice crackers, and it leads you to the ‘temple of wood carving’, otherwise known as the Taishakuten temple. Yamamoto-tei, a traditional residence that once housed a prosperous merchant, boasts a blend of Western and Japanese architectural styles. This harmony amongst a Japanese drawing room, Western architecture, and a Japanese garden provides a uniquely beautiful experience. Yamamoto-tei, which was ranked 4th by the American magazine Sukiya Living, The Journal of Japanese Gardening in 2019, offers a peaceful and affluent experience as you sit on the cooling touch of a tatami mat gazing at the serene Japanese garden. Following this, pay a visit to the Soramachi shopping district at the base of Tokyo Sky tree, and conclude your night with a breathtaking view of the illuminated Sensoji-temple.
