- Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park - Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is the ninth national park in Nepal and was established in 2002. It is located in the country’s mid-hills on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley and named after Shivapuri Peak of 2,732 m altitude.

The Nagarjun hill climb, located a mere 7 km from the heart of Kathmandu, is considered one of the top hiking trails within the city’s valley. Also referred to as the Jomacho Peak, this hill stands at 2128m high. The hike generally takes about 2-3 hours to complete, covering a distance of 5km, after a brief 25-minute drive from Thamel. Ascending Nagarjun provides stunning visions of the snowy Himalayas, including the Langtang region.
The climb is affiliated with the Shivapuri National Park, and the route weaves you through a thick woodland of bamboo, oak, rhododendron, pine, along with several other species of plants. This trek is idyllic for bird enthusiasts, and on a lucky day, wild animals such as wild boars, leopards, jungle cats, and monkeys might be spotted.
The peak of Nagarjun gives a view of the Jomacho monastery, making the hike popular amongst Buddhist pilgrims. The view from the summit offers a magnificent panorama of the Kathmandu valley and the Swoyambhunath temple.
