At a height of 6189m, Island Peak, located in the Everest region of Nepal, is considered one of the less prominent yet formidable trekking summits. A rewarding effort of this intensive journey is a breathtaking view of Ama Dablam and Lhotse’s southern face. The peak is accessible from Dingboche via Chhukung Valley following a shorter route that requires no acclimatization days. This rigorous climbing schedule is ideal for individuals in excellent physical condition with previous mountaineering knowledge and time constraints.
After a day’s journey from Chhukung along the Lhotse Glacier and past the swollen Imja Tsho, we reach the Base Camp to gear up for the upcoming challenge. Depending on the weather, it may take an extra day or two to reach the peak. We aim for the summit (6189m/20306ft) after spending a night at the High Camp on the South West Ridge, which offers splendid views of the Khumbu from the summit.
