Highlights
  • Meteora - When we speak of an awe-inspiring landscape that never fails to impress even the most skeptical of visitors, Meteora undoubtedly comes to mind. This majestic formation consists of towering stone pillars that are believed to have originated around 60 million years ago, with their current forms being sculpted by the forces of earthquakes and erosion over time.

Meteora ranks as the second most revered monastic site following Mount Athos. Perched atop these stone giants, the monasteries attract countless tourists from across the globe. Regrettably, of the original 30 monasteries, only a handful remain operational today: the Monastery of Great Meteoron, the Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas, the Monastery of St. Stephen, The Monastery of Rousanou, the Monastery of Varlaam, and the Monastery of Holy Trinity.

The origins of Meteora continue to be a source of fascination and mystery for scholars who are dedicated to unraveling the secrets of its geological formation. It earned a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988.

After departing from Meteora, our journey takes us to the charming town of Kalambaka. Here, visitors can savor a traditional meal and take a leisurely stroll through its quaint streets.

Long Drive, but you can sleep in it! - The car was a little tight for the four of us, but we enjoyed the trip because the driver let us stop in the nearby town to have lunch and walk around. Meteora is beautiful and very much worth it.
