The route winds through olive groves, leading to the historic Profitis Ilias Church. This mountaintop church, situated high above, offers stunning views, creating a sense of where the heavens meet the earth. The journey continues to the old American base, and shortly after, reaches the quaint chapel of Saint Donatos, at an elevation of 893 meters. The view is spectacular, with the surrounding stone houses “voltoi” and ancient circular pathways “alonia,” all testifying to the area’s rich agricultural history—alongside the lentil fields and old vineyards. The descent through vineyards eventually leads to the stone-paved alleys of the village, where visitors can explore the old church.
