Highlights
  • Discover Sipi_Sipi Falls-Mt Elgon - Are you a good coffee drinker or want to know more about how coffee is roasted, grounded and brewed? Coffee is one of the main cash crops grown on the slopes of Mount Elgon. Coffee was discovered in Ethiopia by a goat who always admired the sweet sap of the coffee juice inside the coffee skin. After its discovery, people started eating the fruits mainly during famine and leisure not until the coming of missionaries and the Indian merchants who introduced the commercialization of coffee. The missionaries used to normally send coffee to their relatives as gifts.
Coffee tour experience done in the village setting gives you a great taste of a true finest Ugandan coffee made by you in an organic process which involves pounding dry coffee beans using a wooden mortar to remove the husks and later roast them in fire using a dry saucepan with little firewood. We do have different options of making coffee. We have red honey coffee, yellow honey coffee, natural coffee and semi washed coffee

Additional Information

Are you an avid coffee enthusiast or interested in learning about the coffee production process? Coffee is a key agricultural product cultivated on the inclines of Mount Elgon. Legend has it that coffee’s origin traces back to Ethiopia, where a goat took a liking to the delectable nectar found within the coffee cherry. Following its initial discovery, local populations consumed the berries primarily in times of scarcity and for enjoyment, until the arrival of missionaries and Indian traders who kickstarted the trade of coffee. The missionaries would frequently mail coffee back home as presents.

Participating in a coffee tour in a rural setting provides a unique opportunity to savor authentic Ugandan coffee, crafted by your own hands through a traditional method. This involves manually crushing dried coffee beans in a wooden mortar to separate the chaff, followed by roasting them over an open flame in a pan using minimal firewood. Our establishment offers various coffee types, including red honey, yellow honey, natural, and semi-washed coffee.

A host who opens the door to the wondrous Sipi-Elgon region. - We spent a day with William that included a morning waterfall hike and an afternoon coffee tour at a small farm just above the Sipi-Kapchorwa road. We were introduced to William through our safari guide Robert Seruma (see related review). William offers deep knowledge of his people and their history, a naturalist's sense of the ecosystem through which the visitor hikes or scrambles, and a working layman's knowledge of the geology of the Mt Elgon caldera that shapes the spectacular Sipi River region. He was properly solicitous of the needs of a partly disabled visitor, a fine interpreter of nature and culture, and a superb storyteller - a skill that he demonstrated through his account of the marriage traditions of the Sabinya people. The coffee experience introduced us to the best cup of coffee we've ever enjoyed.
