The sun was shining brightly on a typical Brisbane day as I stood at the base of the iconic Story Bridge, ready to embark on the Story Bridge Climb. The bridge loomed high above, a formidable structure against the azure sky, and I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation. With 4,500 steps ahead of me, I wondered if my city-planner legs were up to the challenge. But as I soon discovered, the climb was more exhilarating than exhausting.

Arriving at the office on Main Street, Kangaroo Point, I was greeted by the friendly staff who quickly got us ready for the adventure. The attention to detail and safety was impressive. Secure lockers were provided for our belongings, and we were outfitted in light, camouflaged overalls to prevent distracting drivers below. A breathalyzer test ensured we were all under the legal limit, and with a harness securely attached to a steel cable, I felt ready to conquer the heights.

Reaching New Heights

As we began our ascent, the initial nerves gave way to awe as the panoramic views unfolded. Our guide, Ryan, was both engaging and professional, sharing fascinating facts about the bridge and the city. The cooling breeze from the Brisbane River was a welcome relief as we climbed higher, and I found myself captivated by the sight of little red ferries chugging along below.
