- North Thompson River Provincial Park - It rejoined the North Thompson River in Kamloops, and together they created the powerful Thompson River.
- Monte Creek Winery - There are no signs for it. However, just ahead along the river is the small Monte Creek Provincial Park.
- Pritchard Bridge - The Pritchard Bridge crossing the river just ahead offers a picturesque photo opportunity, especially at sunset. It’s one of the last reminders of the era when paddle wheelers were the primary mode of transport before modern highways and roads.
- Chase - Passing by the quaint village of Chase, named after Whitfield Chase, the first non-native settler in the region.
- Little Shuswap Lake Road - The charming lake here is Little Shuswap. It’s not entirely natural, having been formed by a dam on the South Thompson River by the town.
- Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park - Clear signs will be visible after crossing the bridge, leading directly to the viewing platform.
- Shuswap Lake - Named after the Shuswap Indians, an Interior Salish tribe who occasionally crossed the mountains to hunt buffalo on the prairies.
- Sorrento - This town’s marketers have dubbed it the “Heart of the Shuswap.” Originally known as Trapper’s Landing, it was a meeting place for Shuswap Indian trappers returning with furs. Sorrento’s history dates back to 1910.
- Salmon Arm - The arm of the lake. Earlier, the arm called Shuswap Lake was passed. Remember, there are four long arms of the lake, all interconnected.
- Yard Creek Provincial Park - Not a necessary stop on this trip, but it’s an important area for preserving fish and bird habitats. Established in 1956, it covers 60 hectares of beautiful forested upland with lumber mills along the Trans-Canada highway.
- Last Spike - A must-visit spot, representing a pivotal moment for Canada. It’s intriguing as it signifies the end of a story.
- Crazy Creek Suspension Bridge - This is the Crazy Creek Suspension Bridge, spanning a creek that roars with snowmelt runoff, especially in spring and early summer.
- The Enchanted Forest - A popular attraction, especially for families with young children. The Enchanted Forest was the retirement project of Doris Needham and her husband.
- Griffin Lake - Logging is visible here, with several cedar mills located along the highway.
- Three Valley Lake - Aptly named, as watersheds from three different valleys converge here.
- Three Valley Gap Ghost Town - A hotel with restaurant services and a historical museum featuring several fascinating exhibits. Gordon Bell, a child of the Great Depression, was responsible for this development.
- Eagle Pass - Walter Moberly, a government surveyor, was the first documented European in this area in 1865.
- Monashee Mountains - Now in the heart of the Monashee mountain range. The forest is rich with large trees, lush undergrowth, and abundant moss.
- Columbia River - Crossing this bridge leads to the town of Revelstoke. Below, the first glimpse of the significant Columbia River is visible. This river flows through Washington state and empties into the Pacific Ocean near Astoria, Oregon.
- Glacier National Park - Known for its numerous roaring waterfalls, raging rivers, and towering peaks. Many mountains exceed 3050m or 10,000ft.
- Rogers Pass - The most notable man-made feature in Glacier National Park is the buildings and services at the summit of Rogers Pass.
- Kinbasket Lake - This is Kinbasket Lake, with a prominent sign for entry to the Kinbasket Lake Resort campground. It’s not a necessary stop, but worth noting.
- Columbia River Bridge - Below, the first glimpse of the significant Columbia River is visible. This river flows through Washington state and empties into the Pacific Ocean near Astoria, Oregon.
- Blaeberry - Turning northeast leads into the stunning Blaeberry Valley. From there, the road becomes a dusty Forest Service road winding to the Banff National Park boundary.
- Kicking Horse River - The steep walls and mountain slopes are fragile. For a long time, this section was just one lane each way due to the difficulty in finding a safer route. It could feel a bit daunting to drive through.
- Wapta Falls - A great summer stop for a leisurely hour-long walk to one of the Rockies’ prettiest waterfalls.
- Mt Burgess Guesthouse - Two towering mountains rise above in the valley, nearly impossible to see both from a car unless in a convertible with the top down. Both mountains hold significance for different reasons.
- Lower Spiral Tunnel Viewpoint - Caution is advised for traffic entering and exiting the car park. This is the most frequented viewpoint along the Trans-Canada highway.
- Wapta Falls - This lovely lake or large pond is Wapta Lake, considered the source of the Kicking Horse River.
- Lake Louise - Home to the Samson Mall, which encompasses most of the town. It includes a grocery store, bakery, visitor information, and other shops. Some Lake Louise hotels are also located here.
