• Hafnir - Approaching the quaint village of Hafnir, overlooking a small bay. Although only a few hundred people reside here today, it was once home to two of Iceland’s largest estates, whose owners often clashed!

• Gunnuhver Hot Springs - Ahead, the Gunnuhver Hot Springs provide spectacular volcanic views. This high-temperature geothermal field is near an active volcano. To our right, a gentle rise marks Gunnuhver Volcano, the hot springs’ main source!

• Reykjanesta Lighthouse - On our right, the Reykjanes Lighthouse stands guard over the peninsula’s southernmost point. Since 1878, a lighthouse has been here, guiding sailors and fishermen past the dangerous cliffs.

• Valahnukamol - When viewing the statue, you might think: Is that a penguin? While these stout, flightless birds resemble penguins, they are a completely different species!

• Brimketill lava rock pool - ‘Brimketill’ means “whitewater cauldron.” Legend says this cauldron belonged to a giant troll named Oddný! Oddný and her husband Hróar lived in a nearby cave. At night, Oddný would visit her cauldron to cook and wash clothes. Sounds quite serene!

• Fagradalsfjall Volcano Eruptions: 2023, 2022, 2021 - The 1,200-foot Fagradalsfjall is a true trendsetter: Its 2021 eruption began the recent volcanic activity known as the New Reykjanes Fires. Before this, it had been nearly 800 years since the peninsula experienced a major volcanic event! Truly groundbreaking!
