Additional Information

We’ll start our journey by strolling along the tranquil paths of Kamakura, heading to a shrine renowned for its numerous torii gates and fox statues. Our local guide will delve into cultural insights, explaining the connection between shrines and foxes, Shinto philosophy, and the art of shrine worship.

Next, we’ll explore a temple nestled within a cave, where you’ll discover a fascinating tradition of cleansing money at the temple.

Following our exploration of local shrines and temples, we’ll embark on a 30 to 40-minute hiking adventure through the enchanting forest, immersing ourselves in the unique terrain and the beauty of nature. This journey will lead us to the awe-inspiring Great Buddha of Kamakura, an iconic monument with an 800-year history.

To conclude our adventure, we’ll guide you to a restaurant operated by the temple and try Kamakura’s local dishes like Udon, vegetable curry.

Best tour ever!! - Rookie gave us the best tour experience ever…and we’ve been using Viator regularly for 10+ years. We only had a day to explore Kamakura but we feel like we saw all the key highlights - excellent trip! Really recommend. As well as being a fountain of historical knowledge, Rookie explained and showed us a range of local delights - such as the Sakura sweet shop and how to make offerings at the temple - things that would have passed us by without realising if we’d been on our own! We’ll definitely visit Kamakura again and look forward to using this fab, fun and professional tour guide again too. Thanks so much Rookie.

Wonderful day trip to Kamakura - We were blessed by an amazing weather and our guide Ramesh was really great in explaining the japanese traditions and the details of the various temples we visited. He left us all the time we needed to wander around and appreciate the beauty of the locations. The 5 hours went by really quickly. Definitely a tour worth taking.

Educational and fun tour of Kamakura! - I had the BEST day with Rookie! She was so knowledgeable and friendly. We walked/hiked all over Kamakura seeing sights, learning about history and experiencing the local culture. She also took lots of pictures for me so I didn’t have to take selfies. I would definitely recommend this tour —- especially if you are lucky enough to have Rookie as your guide!

Hiking tour of Kamakura - I absolutely love Kamakura and plan on going back my next visit . My tour guide, Nori, was wonderful and so insightful. We ended up viewing the most beautiful sites, and the weather was amazing. Do prepare well and wear layers if you’re going in January. I was a bit overdressed and probably should’ve brought or wore a T-shirt instead of a long sleeve shirt.

Beautiful and easy hiking, covering a few historical and religous spots in Kamakura. - I looked for hiking tours in Kamakura. I didn't have much to choose from, but I was not disappointed! The local guide made the trip feel like a breeze, and I will keep many of the experiences as memory. Don't miss out on the shopping street at the end. I also appreciated the tour as a way to practice Japanese.
