Additional Information

The Soviet-era edifice built in 1980, nestled in the village of Kalnciems by the riverside and amidst peat bogs, is recognized as a slum unit and has been vacant for numerous years.

Revitalization and refurbishment of the building commenced in 2019, funded largely by private family contributions. The edifice is gradually being converted into a museum dedicated to peat art. The establishment, dubbed the Peat House, will also accommodate a peat workshop and research facility, majorly utilizing handcrafted methods for peat preparation.

The primary objective of the Peat Museum is to compile and disseminate the traditional practices that have been fostered since 2008.

Currently, the Peat House is still undergoing renovations, but we encourage visitors to absorb the evolving vision at every phase. For further details, feel free to reach out via email at [email protected]
