• Kalametiya Bird Watching & Ecotourism - The Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary stands as one of Sri Lanka’s oldest and most important bird-watching locations. Initially designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938, its protected status was briefly removed in 1946 due to local opposition. Recognizing its ecological significance, it was reinstated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1984 and has since remained a crucial conservation area.

Today, the sanctuary is renowned as a top bird-watching spot in Sri Lanka, hosting over 150 bird species, including 54 migratory ones. Beyond its diverse birdlife, the sanctuary is home to around 20 mammal species, 41 fish species, and 38 reptile species, showcasing its remarkable biodiversity.

Kalametiya Bird Watching Excursion
This engaging two-and-a-half-hour birdwatching adventure leads participants into the core of the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, a vital coastal wetland ecosystem in Sri Lanka. The excursion starts at either 6:00 a.m. for morning departures or 3:30 p.m. for afternoon tours, allowing for a choice between sunrise or golden-hour birdwatching.
