Kerala boasts a network of navigable backwaters extending over 900 km, which once served as the primary mode of transportation. The most significant town along this stretch is Alleppey, also known as Alappuzha, often referred to as the “Venice of the East.” This town is also home to Kuttanad, the rice bowl of Kerala, and one of the few places globally where farming occurs below sea level. Visitors are encouraged to head to Alleppey for a unique experience aboard the renowned houseboats. These houseboats glide through the serene backwaters, offering views of lush green paddy fields, villages, temples, and more, providing a glimpse into life along the backwaters. While on board, guests can savor a traditional Kerala lunch during the cruise. A stop at Champakulam village allows for a visit to the historic St. Mary’s Church, which is centuries old. After lunch, the cruise concludes, and guests disembark at the jetty, where transportation awaits to return them to Cochin and their hotel.
