Following a brief ride along the beautiful Gastineau Channel you will don hardhats as you proceed along the boardwalk 360 ft into the only underground tunnel tour in the state of Alaska! An experienced miner will demonstrate hard rock mining and acquaint you with the mining lifestyle. Back at the mill our guide will explain why this mill was unique compared to others. You will see the John Peterson Stamp mill in operation and you’ll try your own hand at panning for gold and garnets. Pay dirt is guaranteed and you keep what you find! Wander through our displays and see the first steam engine brought to Alaska. Be sure to check out the General Store for that special something for that special someone.

A great learning adventure! - Brad walked us through the mines and was extremely knowledgeable on the past history and present and even where the mining industry is going in the future. We enjoyed the tour and panned afterwards. We had flakes and we're able to put them in a vile to bring home. We also visited the general store, which they were super nice also! A great experience!

A fantastic place for a holiday - Beautiful place the cruise port was right in town with plenty of shops and places to go on tours,food restaurants and bars were plentiful and local people were friendly and helpful ,shops varied in prices but plenty of everything needed.

Interesting and fun - We liked this tour. Our guide in the gold mine was a miner for 38 years so he was very knowledgeable and interesting. Everyone on the tour did find a few tiny flakes of gold during the panning which was fun.

Worth the time to check out - The guides really knew their stuff. It was a super fun tour. You really do find gold during the gold panning section of the tour

Gold mine history - Very informative. Guide was a minor and knows his stuff. Very friendly especially to the youngsters in our group. Made them feel involved. Everyone had fun panning for gold.

It was interesting - Enjoyed seeing the inner workings of a mine. Don't expect to find a lot of gold when panning.....You can barely see the flakes of gold.

Juneau mine visit. - Very cool to see, a little different than originally expected as the area of the mine was less than anticipated. The guide was very friendly and provided great information. Would have liked to have had more time doing the "panning" with the pay dirt. All in all a good experience, but a little pricey for what was provided/offered.
