• Phale Close Diepkloof Extension Phase 2 - This area exemplifies the affluent part of Soweto, showcasing beautiful and large homes alongside hostels. These hostels were originally built for migrant mine workers. This will be a drive-through experience.
• Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital - Department of Social Services - This is the largest hospital in the Southern Hemisphere. We will simply drive through this area.
• Orlando Towers - Formerly a coal-powered power station, it is now an entertainment venue that has created jobs for local residents. Stop here for photos.
• Orlando East - Here, you will observe shanty towns or squatter settlements alongside some government housing.
• Vilakazi Street - This is a renowned street in Soweto and globally, known for being home to two Nobel Peace Prize winners. Along the street, there are bars, restaurants, street vendors, Tutu House, and the Nelson Mandela Museum. Visitors can explore the Mandela Museum.
• Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial - This memorial site is dedicated to the 1976 Soweto children’s uprising, when they protested against being taught in Afrikaans instead of English. You can walk through the garden of remembrance and see the iconic photograph of Hector Pieterson.
