A must-do activity during a stay in Shanghai - A very nice way to get in touch with Chinese language and culture. Lucy is very educational, very knowledgeable and patient and you will have at the end of the two hours a great caligraphic production. I highly recommend this workshop!

Wonderful calligraphy experience in Inkmoon - Inkmoon Calligraphy workshop is located on a beautiful road in the French Concession in Shanghai. When you walk into the lane, it is full of the fireworks of Shanghai. The studio is quiet and comfortable. Lucy received me very warmly, and I can see that she is a very professional calligraphy teacher. She first introduced me to the development history of Chinese calligraphy, and then asked me to practice seal calligraphy and strokes, practicing these interesting words like painting. Finally, I finished the work on a pair of fans. The work was unexpectedly satisfactory and completely exceeded my expectations. It was great! This calligraphy experience is perfect. Lucy's English is excellent. I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to come here to experience other calligraphy fonts next time.

A Classic Oasis in the Heart of Shanghai - Shanghai is a city brimming with artistic marvels, both modern and timeless, and my encounter with Lucy at an avant-garde solo exhibition was nothing short of serendipitous. As the art director, she exudes a unique vision that sets her apart. Since enrolling in Lucy's class at Ink Moon, I've been captivated by the intricate details that adorn her studio. With Lucy, my artistic endeavors yield fruitful results. Unlike other studios where I often breeze in and out, at Ink Moon, you find yourself immersed, contemplating every piece that catches your eye. Learning from scratch with Lucy is a genuine privilege. In the realm of Chinese calligraphy, an art form often regarded as profound and intricate, Lucy's focus is unwavering. She dedicates herself to sharing the allure with those who share her passion. Spending 2-3 hours here is an absolute delight. From seal carving to fan calligraphy, every aspect is tailored to cater to your individual preferences. The location is spot on, the pricing is reasonable, and the flexible schedules make each visit a seamless experience. It's these elements that keep drawing me back, time and time again. Ink Moon is a true gem in the heart of Shanghai!

Very Interesting Class - My friends and I had a 2 weeks short stay here at Shanghai and decided to have a try with traditional Chinese calligraphy. One of my local friends recommended this workshop. It's well tailored to your level and you can easily communicate to the instructor on what you're interested in and what you want to know more about. We started with an entry level calligraphy class. The experience overall is more like those paint night in which you have fun and you learn more about traditional culture as well that you probably won't be able to get elsewhere in a short trip. We even took home our work!

Beyond Expectation - I highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for hands-on experience in Chinese calligraphy without the need of any preparation in advance by simply walking into the studio empty-handed (kind of like watching flamingo when in Seville, but this time you get to dance by yourself); or if you’re looking for a short break from the tight travel schedule and to take a rest and spend 2 hours in an air-conditioned studio with tea and lo-fi music in between your visits of shopping malls and museums in Shanghai; or if you’re interested in learning a little bit more about traditional writing techniques by talking to local artists. I feel everyone can find what they’re looking for here as it’s a pretty relaxed and interactive private workshop, that you can easily communicate to the owner.   I booked this tour during my 1 week visit back to Shanghai. From the past few years, I’ve tried “doing” the calligraphy from time to time. But I always find it’s like drawing that I don’t really get the true techniques, so I decided to look for an experiencing tour that I can have a quick calligraphy 101 with in-person tutoring from an experienced artist that later on I may be able to write and practice by myself.   Luckily, I find Lucy’s workshop. The place is easy to find at the center of Shanghai, near the Jing’an Temple which is also a place to visit, and few shopping centers, all making it easier to arrange my schedule on the day of visit as it’s just few minutes away from a metro station.   The calligrapher, and instructor, Lucy also makes the experience far beyond my expectation. She explained various writing styles and let me try different strokes to get a taste of different techniques, though some are not easy that earlier I was never able to start by myself by just mimicking the writings of the masterpieces at home.   However, the experience does not stop here, there’s a final product which is a traditional folding fan that I got to finish it by writing the calligraphies on the fan in a way that ancient handcrafters do. Lucy was very patient and guided me through the process to ensure the output is pretty decent. I honestly like the fan and am carrying it with me through the rest of the trip in Shanghai as it’s a pretty hot summer.

had a great time - I really enjoyed this introductory calligraphy class. To be honest, I went into it thinking Chinese art is a bit intimidating and hard to grasp, but instructor Lucy put my fears to rest. She was really engaging and explained the different scripts in a way that made sense. I found myself enjoying putting brush to paper (it’s quite mesmerizing) and getting a more in-depth and tactile experience. It was both easier (the ink flows very quickly) and harder (nice strokes are hard to create) than I expected. The studio was easy to get to and nicely decorated. I’d highly recommend this class for anyone.
