Tapas Tourists - We had a fantastic time, Juan, our Host couldn’t have been more friendly and knowledgeable. We went to and saw things we would never have discovered by ourselves. The Tapas were sensational. Many thanks Juan you made it a great experience.

Tabancos and Jerez - Perfect Together! - We've been taking advantage of walking tours in various cities, most recently in Cadiz, Spain and Ronda Spain. We get to see things and learn things that we'd never discover on our own, with the benefit of added exercise. While we were in Cadiz, we took a day trip to Jerez de la Frontera and added in Viator's Tabancos and Wine Tasting Tour. Tabancos were places where people went to enjoy sherry and tapas, although they serve other kinds of liquid refreshment today. It wound up being a "private" tour with our excellent young tour guide, Luis, because we were the only two people signed up. Luis has a true passion for the history and architecture of his city, the sherries that are produced in the area, and the various types of tapas that are served in the Tabancos. He even has his own SherryGo tours operation, and can be contacted at [email protected]. You don't have to be a lover of sherry to enjoy this tour; the historical Tabancos, the excellent tapas they serve, and the insights into the history of Jerez de la Frontera, are all worth your time, whether you're drinking sherry, wine, beer, or anything else you'd prefer. Highly recommended!

Pretty Poor Tour - We had, separately from the cruise line, contracted with Viator for a short walking tour, Tabancos and Wine tasting, thru the heart of Jerez de la frontera. We had taken the train up from Cadiz as we are comfortable making our way thru Europe with public transport. We had spent time in Seville, Granada, Barcelona and other towns on previous trips and had visited bars and tapas restaurants on those visits. So, our purpose with this tours was to gain some history of the area and to be introduced to the Jerez Tabanco lifestyle while at the same time, enjoy some sherry and sangria. After we had taken the short hop on hop off bus ride around the city, on our own, we met up with ‘Carmen’, our tour guide for this tour. She spoke broken English at best (the brochure said the tour was led by an English speaking guide) and she shared a map that we could have gotten from the TI office (where we met her) that showed 6 Tabancos locations and a line drawn in marker with our route. Good enough, let’s get going, we thought. We started walking and she tried her best to tell us about the small city. We could understand about 30% of what she was saying so we tried to clarify, and at one point we both got out our phones, pulled up a translation program on a google and we shared words back and forth to understand what she was trying to convey. Issue #1: lack of communication as she was not fluent in a English. The first tabanco was closed, so we headed to the second. It was open, so we sat at the bar at the window and ordered some sherries and some tapas. This is exactly what we had hoped for... the traditional tabanco with locals doing as we were. Let me also explain that it was about 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside, middle of the afternoon, and the Tabanco was air conditioned!👍🏼 Now it was on to the next one, which was closed for vacation. Oopps! We would have thought the local tour group and guide would know which ones were open and closed as their business is this tour🤔 Onto the next one that was to have Flamenco music, and it was open👏 but crowded. We pressed against the other bodies to get in to see the 3 musicians reflected in a mirror and listened and watched for about 10 minutes. Hot, stuffy and too crowded, so we left to fin the next one. Oopps... that one was closed, as was the next and the one after that. Issue #2. More closed tabancos than open ones and the tour guide did not know this. We made our way to one not on the map and found it was open and ordered sherries and a couple of tapas. At that point, we could have done this on our own🙁. We ended the tour, not happy with it.
