- Busan Gamcheon Culture Village - In 1950, during the Korean War, refugees flocked to Busan, leading to the development of urban areas on the plains and the formation of villages on the uninhabited hillsides. Gamcheon-dong is one such village, where refugees constructed homes on bare land, creating a small community. Followers of Taegeukdo, a new religion of Gangjeungsanpa, also settled here. This village emerged post-war as refugees from various regions made it their home.
The observatory road featuring the Little Prince and Desert Fox photo zone is a must-visit. It offers a unique tourist experience for those seeking a landscape reminiscent of a cartoon scene and a place to dream.
- Haedong Yonggungsa - The temple’s harmony with the sea, dragon, and Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva holds profound religious significance. It is renowned as a place where sincere prayers can make dreams and wishes come true. Destroyed during the Imjin War in the early 1590s, it was rebuilt by Ungang Seonsa of Tongdosa in the early 1930s. In 1974, Monk Jeongam (晸菴) became the chief priest and prayed for 100 days to reestablish it as an Avalokitesvara temple. He renamed it Haedong Yonggungsa after dreaming of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in white riding a dragon to heaven. There is a popular belief that praying here can bless childless couples with children.
Additionally, make a wish at every temple you visit!
- Jagalchi Market - As the largest domestic fish market in Busan, located in Nampo-dong 4-ga, Jung-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, Jagalchi Market offers live raw fish and seafood in aquariums, alongside street vendors selling fish in baskets, reminiscent of traditional markets.
The name Jagalchi originates not from the fish but from the pebbles on the ground.
Travelers taking a boat from Busan International Passenger Terminal to Japan often purchase raw fish here to enjoy during their overnight journey. They also buy pig’s feet, chicken, and sweet and sour chicken.
BIFF Square is conveniently located across the street. Although it was expected to benefit from the Busan International Film Festival, the main stage moved to Haeundae Cinema Center.
It is also known as Nampo-dong Market, in conjunction with the nearby Gukje Market, named after the neighborhood.
-
BIFF Square - Originally just two movie theaters built half a century ago after Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule, Busan’s modern film street has transformed into a cultural tourism attraction that fosters the Korean film industry’s growth. BIFF Square has elevated Busan’s status as an international cultural tourism city. The 428m-long street from Nampo-dong Buyeong Theater to Chungmu-dong Overpass is divided into “Star Street” and “Festival Street,” hosting the “BIFF Square Ground Opening Ceremony” annually on the festival’s eve. Events include hand printing of famous movie stars and snow flower lighting. BIFF Square is a unique location in Asia and even Europe, with new theaters densely packed throughout the city, offering immense potential.

Gukje Market - Located alongside Biff Square and Jagalchi Market, Gukje Market allows visitors to explore the surrounding area in one go. This renowned market has endured challenging times and is situated in Daecheong-dong 3-ga, Sinchang-dong 2-ga, Sinchang-dong 3-ga, Sinchang-dong 4-ga, and Changseon-dong 2-ga, Jung-gu, Busan. It is across from other major markets in Busan, such as Jagalchi Market, Bupyeong Kkangtong Market, and the recently popular Bosu-dong Book Alley. Since they are all within walking distance, visiting them all at once is highly recommended.
