Throughout its history, this Taoist temple has undergone several name changes. It was destroyed during the 1740 Chinese massacre by the Dutch but was rebuilt in 1755 by Chinese captain Oei Tjhie, who renamed it Kim Tek Le or Jin De Yuan (meaning golden wisdom). Later, its name was translated into Bahasa Indonesia as Vihara Dharma Bhakti.

Although it is now a minor port, Sunda Kelapa played a crucial role in Jakarta’s development and remains a significant part of its history. The port is currently managed by the state-owned Indonesia Port.
