Purchased by insurance company Nillmij in 1931, it served various roles, including as the British General Consulate during the Pacific War and the residence of Rear Admiral Tadashi Maeda during the Japanese occupation. After the Allies arrived in September 1945, it became the British military HQ. Rented by the English Embassy from 1961 to 1981, it was given to the Indonesian Department of Education and Culture on December 28, 1981.
