The first destination is Jaisalmer Fort, one of the largest forts globally, offering stunning views of the city. Constructed in 1156 AD by the Bhati Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, the fort is named after him. Its vast yellow sandstone walls appear tawny lion-colored during the day and transform to honey-gold at sunset, blending seamlessly with the yellow desert. Also referred to as the Sonar Killa or the Golden Fort, this architectural marvel houses several families. It overlooks a township that includes the palace complex, intricately carved havelis of wealthy merchants, numerous temples, and the residential areas of armies and traders strategically located on the trade route.
