Incredible experience with Pachi - highly recommend - We had an incredible ATV and dune buggy experience with Pachi as our guide. He was professional, friendly, and made sure we felt safe and comfortable every step of the way. The rental process was clear, the equipment was well-maintained, and our deposits were promptly refunded.
We are a family of eight coming from the US. Our 4-hour tour included a scenic ride to a beautiful waterfall and a mountaintop stop at a charming restaurant where we enjoyed fresh empanadas and met friendly animals—like baby chicks and sweet dogs. It felt like a mini cooking class! Even when a rainstorm hit, Pachi had ponchos ready and kept the vibe fun and adventurous.
He took amazing photos of us throughout the day, and his constant check-ins and safety reminders helped us relax and enjoy every moment. We looked for monkeys and sloths.
At the end of the tour, the team even power-washed our muddy shoes so we could head home clean. This atv tour was a highlight of our trip—highly recommend!

Do it!! - Book it! It was amazing. We drove for 3 hours. We were in our 50's and 60's. It was a big strenuous but we had a blast. We were taken on many dirt roads, fields, crossed water, up on cliffs with gorgeous views, stopped at a little restaurant called El Tajo. Best lemonade I've ever had in my life!! We drove to the waterfalls. Very big steep steps going up and down. If you tire easily or have bad knees, you might want to skip this. We went and swam up and behind the falls. It was exhilarating!
Our young, tall, lean guide was terrific. I wish I could remember his name. Thank you! We took several things off our bucket list on this great trip!

Looking for action? -> AXR Quadtour! - We booked a 4-hour quad tour with AXR. Was a very good decision! Our guide Pachi accompanied us during the tour. We had a lot of fun, it went over stick and stone, up into the hills, over uneven terrain, forests and rivers! We stopped at various places, including a waterfall, where you could swim briefly in the cool water. Pachi also told us a lot about the area and the country during the tour.
Informative and action in one. Gladly again, highly recommended!

Do not hesitate!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - We had a great experience with AXR Jaco! We were able to book on short notice in the week between Christmas and New Years, which was a surprise. Our group of four (two adults and two teenagers) rented two ATVs for a two hour tour with a guide. Our guide Alberto took us up into the mountains and we were able to stop at a few different places to take photos and switch drivers. It was the perfect combo of thrill seeking and still feeling safe. Splashing through mud puddles and crossing a river were some of the highlights! 10/10 recommend.

AXR Jaco 3-Hour ATV Tour: A Mixed Experience - Our recent 3-hour ATV tour with AXR Jaco was a memorable experience, with breathtaking views and exciting adventures, but it was overshadowed by some uncomfortable moments regarding tipping. Here’s a breakdown of our experience:
The Positives
- **Well-Maintained ATVs:** The ATVs appeared new and in excellent condition. It was evident that the staff prioritize their upkeep, which added to our confidence during the tour.
- **Unique Private Experience:** We lucked out as the only group with our guide, Mikey, allowing for a more personal tour.
- Scenic Stops:
- The drive through Jaco to the farm and into the mountains was beautiful. Along the way, we spotted wildlife like a coyote, a snake, and turkey vultures.
- The stop at the border of Puntarenas and San José Provinces provided stunning views of mountain peaks, perfect for photos.
- Jaco Falls was a highlight, with an opportunity to swim and explore behind the waterfall—a truly refreshing and cinematic experience.
- Rancho Shadday offered serene views of the mountains, and the plantain platter and a cold beer made for a relaxing break.
- **Safety Measures:** The safety briefing was thorough, and clear instructions were provided for operating the ATVs.
The Drawbacks
- Excessive Focus on Tips:
- The first mention of tipping during the safety briefing raised some red flags, as it felt premature to bring it up before the tour even began.
- While we understand and empathize with the financial realities of local workers, the repeated emphasis on tipping—both during and after the tour—felt excessive and unprofessional.
- The guide’s direct request for a higher tip after we gave the $10 we had budgeted for was uncomfortable.
- **Mixed Professionalism:**
- Our guide, shared personal details about his life and financial situation, which felt unnecessary and pressured us to contribute more.
- Having a beer at the Shadday Ranch during the tour raised some concerns about the hardship of a financial situation in Costa Rica, with you only make $3/hour.
Final Thoughts
The tour itself was fantastic. The route, views, and overall experience provided a unique perspective on Costa Rica's beauty. However, the constant focus on tipping and the unprofessional behavior of the guide detracted from the overall experience.
Recommendation
I would recommend this tour for its scenic value and adventure. However, I would advise AXR Jaco to provide additional training for their guides to maintain professionalism and address the feedback about tipping etiquette.
**Rating: 3/5 Stars**

Great trip bad customer service - We have used AXR for many years on our trip to CR. Keni and Gabriel are excellent guides they have always tried to show us different things on each trip. We prefer the buggy's feel like they are much safer.
This past Feb.we had them booked and had to cancel part of our crew were not able to make the trip. Their cancellation policy is horrible and for that I will not use them again tho those two guides are super. Too bad they don't value a good relationship with past customers. I will use Piko travel from now on. They are very honest and trustworthy.
