Wonderful tour, good food! - I was very happy to find this tour visiting some of the Yucatan's "magical towns". I was picked up by my guide/driver, Bernie, in his very nice, comfortable car at my apartment in Merida. He explained what we were passing along the way, answered any questions I had, and generally was a pleasant companion for my day out. Our first stop was Motul, for a tasty breakfast of Huevos Motuleños, a dish famously invented in that area. We did a tour of the small terracotta colored town and it's cathedral, and then continued on to the very yellow city of Izamal. There we wandered around the main plaza and the market area, the convent and cathedral, went to see a pyramid, then drove around to see other ruins. We left Izamal and continued on to Teya, a very peaceful and charming village on the way back towards Merida. There we stopped at a wonderful oasis of green gardens and had a very tasty lunch of tortilla chips, soup, and a beautifully plated shrimp dish with vegetables, rice, and a delicious sauce made from the local zapote fruit. I would be happy with that at any 5 star establishment! Afterwards we took many photos and then dropped in to see new apartments that the family has just built. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see more than just the typical area sites. I feel like I made friends, and I look forward to someday seeing them again!
