Archaeological Site of Olympia - Arrive at the ancient site of Olympia. Celebrated for the Olympic Games, the foremost national event with global prestige, held quadrennially in honor of Zeus. The archaeological complex at Olympia encompasses the sanctuary dedicated to Zeus, surrounded by various structures such as sports facilities for the Olympic Games’ preparation and celebration. The site is dominated by the Classical Temple of Zeus and the older Temple of Hera. To the east of the sacred enclosure lies the stadium where the Olympic Games took place. The hippodrome, used for horse and chariot racing, was situated to the south of the stadium.
