Highlights
  • Corinth Canal - As we cross the Isthmus, we stop to see the great feat of engineering that finally opened the route between the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf - the Corinth Canal. It was finished in 1893, even though the idea existed at least as far back as 602 BC!
  • Archaeological Site of Asklipiiou Epidavrou - Travel to Epidaurus and see the world-renowned Epidaurus theater. Built in the 4th century BC, it is famous for its acoustics, which are so perfect that words spoken on stage can be heard perfectly wherever you are in the audience.
  • Nafplio - Stepping forward in history, we will see the Palamidi Castle in Nafplio, built by the Venetians and famous for supposedly having 999 steps. According to legend, there were once 1000 steps leading to the castle, but one of them was crushed by Theodoros Kolokotronis, a leader of the Greek war of independence, during celebrations for a victory against the Ottomans.

Additional Information

This exploration journey encompasses major landmarks of the Peloponnese, which span both ancient and contemporary times, from the Homeric city of Mycenae, to Epidauros, Palamidi Castle in Nafplio, and the Corinth Canal. Mycenae’s kingdom was an early grand hub of Greek culture, with evidence of habitation on this location dating back to the second millennium BC. As per Homer’s accounts, Mycenae housed King Agamemnon, who steered the Greeks in their battle against the Trojans to recover Helen, his brother Menelaus’ wife. During your visit, catch a glimpse of the Lion Gate, which served as the gateway to the royal court and palace. Our journey further leads to Epidaurus, home to the globally celebrated Epidaurus theatre. Erected in the 4th century BC, its claim to fame is the flawless acoustics that allow for clear audibility of stage-spoken words throughout the audience. Venturing further into history, we’ll also pay a visit to the Palamidi Castle in Nafplio, a structure built by the Venetians and known to have an alleged 999 steps.

Exciting, informative, and accommodating tour - I attended this tour with my wife on our dream vacation to Greece. Our driver not only took us to see a multitude of sights that we would have never known to visit otherwise, but also made sure to accommodate any specific needs that we had. For instance, my wife and I each had to take PCR tests in advance of an upcoming flight; our driver went ahead and took us to a local clinic to have our samples taken so that we could focus on sightseeing with no distractions. My personal favorite destination was the Epidaurus theater. My wife and I took turns speaking from the stage seeing how well the other could hear from the stands. Five stars. Will recommend to any tourists traveling to Greece.

Terry knows his stuff - Terry was our driver that picked us up at the airport on our first day in Athens. He was so helpful on that first day letting us know the sites to see and some of the history of Greece. He let us know about the excursions that his company offers and when we were returning to Athens from Santorini we called him and set up this tour for when we got back. The trip was very amazing, Terry is a great person to take you around to the many sites. He would then give us an overview of where to go in the historical sites we visited and what we would see there, and also the history of the site. This was a great trip especially if you are looking for something outside of the big city. We were never rushed to get out of the sites and also had plenty of time to explore Napfloi for lunch and shopping.

Terry brings Greece all together - We had an excellent tour of the northern Peloponnese with Terry. His excellent American accented English made it easy to talk about current life in Greece as well as the ancient history. Learning of our interest in gardening he arranged a visit to a vineyard on the spot. He was also fine with returning to Athens early when we decided we had enough for the day.
