- Galata Bridge - Galata Bridge is one of Istanbul’s most renowned bridges, spanning the Golden Horn. Constructed during the reign of Sultan Abdulmejid II, it was originally made of wood but has been restored and renewed multiple times until a parallel bridge was constructed in 1987. A fire once damaged the bridge, leading to the relocation of some undamaged wooden boards to land. It is a popular spot for sea enthusiasts to enjoy the natural beauty of the sea. Known as the “awake bridge,” its lights remain illuminated, complementing the traffic of sea fans.
- Blue Mosque - The Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Mosque - Camii), built between 1609 and 1616 during the reign of Sultan Ahmet I, is the only mosque in Turkey with six minarets. Its stunning hand-dyed blue, green, and white Iznik tiles have earned it the name “Blue Mosque” among Europeans. The central dome stands 43 meters high and 33.4 meters in diameter, featuring 260 windows.
- Hippodrome - The Hippodrome (At Meydani) was the backdrop for chariot races and the center of Byzantine civic life. Of its original decorations, only three remain: The Obelisk of Theodosius, the bronze Serpentine Column, and the Column of Constantine. The Obelisk, in the Egyptian style, was erected in 1547 BC and originally stood 60 meters tall. The German Fountain, also located in the Hippodrome area, was constructed in Germany to commemorate German Emperor Wilhelm II’s second visit to Istanbul and was officially opened on January 1, 1901. The fountain’s three domes are adorned with gold mosaics.
- Grand Bazaar - The Grand Bazaar (Kapali Carsi) is one of the largest and oldest covered markets globally, featuring more than 58 covered streets and over 1,200 shops. Opened in 1461, it is famous for its jewelry, pottery, spices, and carpet shops. Many stalls are organized by the type of goods, with specific areas for leather coats, gold jewelry, and more. The bazaar includes two bedestens (domed masonry structures for storage and safekeeping), the first of which was built between 1455 and 1461 by order of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. The Grand Bazaar comprises 12 major buildings and has 22 doors.
- Binbirdirek Cistern - The Binbirdirek Cistern was constructed by Roman Emperor Theodosius II between 428 and 443 to store water supplied by the Valens Aqueduct (a Roman Period water reservoir).
- Hagia Sophia Mosque - Hagia Sophia is an awe-inspiring, 1,400-year-old Byzantine cathedral that houses mosaics, relics, and ironwork. For nearly a thousand years, it was the largest enclosed space in the world and remains one of the world’s most significant architectural monuments. It is one of Turkey’s most popular attractions, admired for its size, architecture, mosaics, and art. Built during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century AD, it continues to captivate visitors.
