Day 1: Iquitos – Bethlehem Market – Ecomuseum – Yanayacu Lodge
Iquitos - The day begins with a pickup from your hotel or Iquitos airport, leading straight into an exciting adventure. The first stop is Bethlehem Market, renowned for its exotic fruits, natural remedies, and unique flavors like grilled lizard and suris. A canoe ride follows, exploring the floating neighborhood where residents live in houses on water.
Next, the journey continues along the Nanay River to the confluence of the Nanay, Itaya, and Amazon rivers, a special spot where pink dolphins might be spotted. A visit to the Chullachaki Ecomuseum offers insights into medicinal plants, local culture, and traditional drinks. You’ll also encounter the enormous paiche and alligators at Fundo Don Pedrito. The day concludes at Yanayacu Lodge with a sunset canoe ride and dinner amidst nature.
Day 2: Yanayacu Eco Lodge – Dawn by Canoe – Ethnobotanical Hike – Jungle Camp
Iquitos Amazon Region - The day starts with a 5:00 a.m. canoe ride to witness the sunrise and observe birds. After breakfast, an ethnobotanical hike through the flooded forest reveals majestic trees like ceibas, kapok, and machira coriaceas. Monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife may be seen in their natural habitat. Lunch is served at the lodge around 2:00 p.m. In the afternoon, preparations are made for a jungle camp, sleeping under the stars and connecting with Pachamama. As night falls, an outdoor barbecue dinner is enjoyed, accompanied by local legends, followed by a night hike to discover insects like tarantulas.
Day 3: Yanayacu Lodge – Piranha Fishing – Local Community – Night Walk
Iquitos Amazon Region - The day begins with dismantling the camp, cleaning the area, and returning to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. A canoe trip follows for an exciting piranha fishing experience, targeting the famous and voracious Amazonian fish. Afterward, lunch is enjoyed at the lodge. The afternoon includes a visit to the Yanayacu Timicuro peasant community to learn about their traditions, customs, and lifestyle. Dinner at the lodge is followed by a peaceful canoe ride along the river, gazing at the starry sky in the heart of the jungle.
Day 4: Monkey Island – Yagua Community – Return to Iquitos
Iquitos - After breakfast, a visit to Monkey Island, a rescue center, allows interaction with charming primates. The journey continues to an indigenous Yagua clan, where traditional crafts and dances are showcased. A final swim in the majestic Amazon River serves as a symbolic farewell to the jungle. After lunch, the return to Iquitos begins, arriving around 10:00. The day concludes with a transfer to your hotel or airport.
