Best tour experience I’ve had - We had a fantastic guided route through the Lofthellir ice cave today, getting to see amazing ice sculptures that are hundreds of years old! Our guide Steingrímur was just great, he knew all the details, was super clear and safe and also made sure we were having a good time all along. 100% would recommend. PS: you can find bookings for such tours a bit everywhere online but these guys are the OG ones and have the best offer imo

Fantastic experience - This was our "splash out" item for our stay in Iceland and it didn't disappoint, our guide was Birkir and he was fantastic. He'd spent the weekend rounding up his "sheeps" from the highlands. The drive to get to the lava field took just under an hour but he was explaining things all the way. We changed into our studded boots and put on hats. Make sure you have thick socks as this was the part that got cold. Waterproof gloves are useful because there are puddles on the ice in places and some crawling. There were 6 in our group so a nice number.

Super experience - A wonderful trip inside the caves - truly an unique experience. Tip: wear two layers of wool socks and waterproof pants as there are some wet places. Ask for Birkir as your guide and you will have a blast!

Great experience! - Great experience - would do it again. Crawling through the opening wasn't as hard as we thought, but it was exciting. Our guide Bo was great - funny and knowledgeable. When he shone the light on the ice wall, it was truly breathtaking.

If you’re in North Iceland, don’t miss this tour! - We went on the Lofthellir tour in October; the lava fields were already snow covered and the whole area looked like a real winter wonderland. Börkur, our guide, gave us interesting insights during the 45 minutes superjeep drive. We spend around 1 hour in the cave, and Börkur made it both a fun and educational exploring of the cave. Geo travel takes great care of the cave and keeps the human impact on it as low as possible in order to preserve this beautiful piece of nature. Highly recommended!

Beautiful ice cave - An excellent tour to visit a cave filled with ice "sculptures". Be prepared for a bumpy 30 minute drive to the start of the hike. Bring your headnet because the bugs were really bad as we tried to gear up for the hike. Also bring waterproof rainpants and gloves. I wore soft shell pants and got really wet! I would suggest being in decent shape to be able to do the tour. You will need to be able to pull and lower yourself with ropes while sliding on the ground to get in. The guide will light up the ice once in the cave and it was magical. Verify with the company where the pickup point is. It is listed correctly on their info page (Hike and Bike center ) on TripAdvisor but their webpage still has the wrong location (Myvatn Information Center). There were four of us sitting at the wrong location and it meant the tour guide was sitting waiting for us, and we were waiting for him, before one of us called the company to ask where they were. Not a great way to start the tour .

The Lofthellir Lava Tube Ice Cave tour was the highlight of our Iceland vacation! - The Lofthellir Lava Tube Ice Cave tour was the highlight of our Iceland vacation! I don't want to say too much about it because you just need to experience it for yourself. I'm sure all the guides are great - but we felt lucky to have Thor as our guide. Again, I don't want to say too much, but request Thor if you can (especially if you are a Game of Thrones fan). Thor's family is from the Lake Mývatn area and he spent summers there growing up- so he can tell you all about the local area, people and history. On the drive to the cave, you will see rugged lava fields and learn about the incredible volcanic geology. When you arrive at the cave, you will be given a helmet, headlamp and studded boots for better grip inside the Ice Cave. It's all very well-organized. You will then be led slowly and safely into the cave by your guide. The entrance to the cave is the most narrow part- you need to crawl through- and there is lots of crawling, crouching, sliding, and walking on ice throughout the cave. As you move through the cave, the space gets bigger. This is a fabulous, unique cave experience. If you like caves, I cannot recommend it enough! HELPFUL HINT: Bring warm gloves (water-resistant if possible), waterproof pants, waterproof jacket, etc. Dress in layers, wear warm socks. You are going to get cold and wet. After all it's an ICE cave : )
