Additional Information

Embark on a thrilling 4x4 journey headed by a knowledgeable guide, starting from a chosen location in Northern Iceland - often Akureyri or Lake Myvatn. Our route traverses breathtaking terrains, ice rivers, mountains, and lava beds deep into the highlands, leading up to the extraordinary Askja volcanic region. We pay a visit to the explosive Hrossborgir Crater and movie set for oblivion and Gljúfrasmiður, named ‘canyon maker’ Waterfall. Next, we travel to Herðubreið, a tabletop volcano situated at the base of the stunning Herðubreiðarlindir Springs, considered one of the pristine wilderness spots in Iceland. We also explore the mystical Drekagil or ‘Dragon’s Gully’. The pinnacle of the expedition is the glorious Askja Caldera positioned within the Dyngjufjoll Mountains, a 50 km2 depression formed following an eruption that led to the sinking of the magma chamber roof in the central volcano. The caldera hosts the Víti crater where one can possibly indulge in a swim during the Summer.
