Poor communication - We completed the 2 day Inca trail tour. We received no communication until 10 pm the night before whereby we were then informed we were being picked up at 3:40 am the next morning despite the original itinerary on the booking stating 5 am. The information was provided by our tour guide and not the tour operator. The next morning we were not collected until 4:30 am after constant chasing from us to ask where our transport was. No central point of contact. We were having messages from transport, the tour guide and the tour operator, which caused confusion. When we got to the train station it was very chaotic and we had no idea what was going on. We were not informed that we had to pick up our own lunch at the train station until we were inside the train station and we were not able to get our lunch. This ended up in a last minute scramble for the train staff having to fetch this for us. There was 4 of us on our booking and we were all sat in separate carriages. This caused stress as it’s not clear where you needed to get off to start the Inca trail for this tour and our tour guide was not with us. On the original itinerary on the booking on Viator it provided an overview that a hotel was not included. Therefore we booked a separate hotel. We were provided with information on the day of our tour at 3 am (40 minutes before we were supposed to be picked up) that a hotel was included. We questioned this and we were told the hotel was included, after around half an hour the tour company called our guide and told him that it was there was a mistake and no hotel had been booked. Our tour guide was freelance and employed by the tour company, he was informative and knowledgeable about Matchu Pitchu and the Inca trail. He helped us when we arrived in the town and ensured we were OK at all times. The train journey, the Inca trail and Matchu Pitchu were amazing. The experience was amazing, but it was impacted by the service received by the tour operator and poor communication as we did not know what was happening.
