Incredible post-earthquake hike - We cannot recommend Jamel and Atlas Mountain Trekking enough! We reached out to Jamel 24 hours before our ideal departure (after our original tour fell through). We were a little bit nervous as there wasn’t a lot of information online but he seemed genuine and the reviews were great so we decided to give it a go. Honestly, this was the best decision we could have made. Jamel organised everything for us without hesitation including an extra night in a Berber lodge, sleeping bags, return journey to Agafay (instead of Marrakesh) and even borrowed us cash (because we forgot to bring enough for tips). Everything worked seamlessly, this is a very well oiled machine. The hike itself was bucket list experience! After being picked up by our driver in Marrakesh we met Jamel in Imlil where he introduced us to our guide (@Imliltrekking) and held onto our luggage for us. We started our trek from Imlil (stopping for a lunch break and lots of photos) and then arrived at the refuge. The refuge was better than expected. Bunk bed style rooms, power points, clean bathroom and fire. After spending the night in the refuge we woke at 4am and hiked to the summit and back to Imlil. There was lots of food (prepare by a chef that hiked with us), the guide was super knowledgeable and kind (and spoke good English) and the mule was very handy to help carry everything! Recommendations: - bring a towel, earbuds (in case there is a snorer in your room) and eye mask - bring lots of water - bring cash (you will want to tip your guide/chef/driver etc. and buy snacks etc along the way) - better if you are relatively fit but not essential

A great trekking experience and unique insight into life in Morocco - We had an absolutely exceptional experience and cannot recommend heading to the mountains with Atlas Mountain Trekking more highly. Jamal was great to communicate with, Mohammed an incredibly kind and insightful guide, and Abdul and his mule looked after us very well. The route of the three valleys is very rewarding and a special part of the world to share with the Berber communities who live there.

Fantastic Experience with Fabulous Guide - Highly Recommended - We have just completed a 3 day hiking trip and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The communications with Jamal were excellent, and prompt, from the moment of booking to being picked up from our hotel in Marrakesh. Ahmed (our guide), Abdul (the cook) and Jacqueline (the mule!) where the most fabulous, friendly and fun team. We had an amazing 3 days and were looked after incredibly well throughout. From Ahmed we learnt so much about the local landscape and culture and he was a very thoughtful guide who at all times checked that we were ok and enjoying ourselves - in the more challenging areas he was always there to support. Abdul provided us with really fantastic meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) which we really enjoyed (and were definitely hungry following our walks!) and of course, Jacqueline the mule had to carry all of our stuff and never moaned!! We would 100% recommend this tour to all, regardless of how old. Ahmed will make sure that he will support you throughout - its not a race but an amazing journey!!! We will definitely recommend to all our friends and will return again next year for another trip! Thanks to Jamal, Ahmed, Abdul and Jacqueline from Shane and Emma!!

Fantastic experience - couldn’t fault it. - A wonderful company and fantastic guide for this trek. We had the best time, and couldn’t fault this experience. The guide was so helpful, chatty, encouraging on the difficult bits and fantastic English. The whole experience was seamless and the organisation was top notch. The chef produced some delicious food, and the scenery was breathtaking. We arrived without some of them necessary equipment but the company provided everything we were missing.

Amazing adventure with the best guide! - I was lucky to get a recommendation from a friend to hike up to Mt.Toubkal via Jamal's agency. And even luckier to have the best guide - Mustafa! Whole experience has been smooth and perfect. We booked 2 day tour, and started our first day from Imlil. On our way to Refuge camp, we had few stops to have som freshly pressed orange juice, and some time after that also the most tasty lunch (we had a wonderful cook!). In Refuge camp, Mustafa served us hot mint tea, snacks and dinner in a heated room. Second day, we started with breakfast at 4:30 and then headed to the summit, which took us around 3-3.5 hours. Its been cold and windy, but as the sun went up, we warmed up and were lucky to enjoy the perfect weather on the top - almost no wind and no clouds. Mustafa even offered me his hiking poles, such a gentleman! We could not wish for a better, always ready to help and funnier guide! Those two days have been such a great experience, the best we had in Morocco.

Stunning trip with amazing guide - Amazing 3 day trek around Imlil and a successful summit of Mount Toubkal. Jamal did an excellent job of organising our trip and was very responsive to emails before our trip. The whole trip was extremely well organised and we couldn’t have been looked after any better. We started with some mint tea and met Jamal and our guide Abdullah. On the first day we did a local hike with stunning views. We had a stop for lunch which was prepared for us and enjoyed some time in the sunshine. We then walked back to imlil to stay in a guest house which was very clean with warm showers. We had another delicious meal. The next morning we left for Refuge Toubkal Les mouflon. We hiked for a couple of hours then stopped for freshly squeezed orange juice, we continued on for an hour and stopped for another freshly made lunch of Tagine with salad and bread. After lunch we continued to the refuge. The refuge is basic but very clean. There is a communal area that has a fire which is very welcoming. We were given a snack of popcorn, biscuits and mint tea and another delicious meal of soup followed by a chicken tagine and fresh salad. After an early breakfast at 4.30am of porridge, bread, jams, honey, cheese, fruit etc we set off for Mount Toubkal. It was extremely windy with a lot of snow underfoot, crampons were required. We made a successful summit thanks to our excellent guide Abdullah who helped me get to the top through the 80km gusts, I couldn’t have managed to the top without his assistance. Once back at the refuge we enjoyed a lentil tagine with spaghetti and salad and made our way back to imlil for a final mint tea and a taxi back to Marrakesh. I would recommend this company to anyone thinking of Trekking in the Altas mountains.

Toubkal, Tea, and Tagine - Epic Adventure in the High Atlas! Wallah! - My friend and I headed to Imlil to summit Mt Toubkal and explore the High Atlas. With so many tour operators to choose from it can be quite overwhelming choosing one to organise your trip, but I can honestly say you need look no further than Atlas Mountain Trekking for an incredible experience. After chatting with Jamal on the phone and then over tea in town, we knew we were in good hands. He organised a bespoke tour for us at a competitive price to fit both our budget and timeframe. Our four day trip included the mighty Toubkal summit and a beautiful trek through the adjacent Oureka valley. We were fed generously throughout with tagine, tagine, and tagine - fine by me! Our first nights stay was at Jamals guest house, where we had an intense snowball fight with Jamal's children, drank Moroccon tea, and were fed a delicious chicken tagine. The next morning after a hearty breakfast of breads and jams and yog, Jamal and his youngest son, Abdul Hakim - a man of few words, being only 1 year old - wished us luck on our adventure. Our guide and muleteer up the mountain, Mohamed and Kabouz, could not have been friendlier nor more professional, and did a superb job of putting up with some outrageously smelly chat from our end. It was a delight discussing everything from baby shark to the intricacies of the islamic faith on our walk up to the refuge. Travellers attempting a summit in the off-season, be warned that the refuge gets extremely cold at night and so pack appropriately. You leave your big bags at the refuge for the actual summit and so there is no need to skimp on layers due to weight. After some delicious food and a few games of "go fish" we headed to the bunks for some rest before the big day. I would also strongly advise packing ear plugs to block out any snoring... After a pretty antisocial 4:30 am wakeup, a quick breakfast of breads and jams and yog, Mohamed, Fred, our trusty Djin and I were off! This part of the climb was tough in the snow, no doubt, but most with a decent level of fitness should be able to complete it going it their own pace. We reached just below the summit for a biblical sunrise, before reaching the roof of the Atlas shortly thereafter. Mission accomplished! We were lucky with the weather and were able to loiter at the top waiting for the view to get dull, which it didn't. The walk down is not tough physically, but it is hard on the knees and we wished we had rented walking poles (we opted for ice axes, because they looked cooler). For the final two days of our trek we climbed to the high pass for lunch and then dropped into the adjacent valley to throw some rocks at a waterfall and stay in a local Amarzigh village. Kabouz, the Moroccan Gordon Ramsey, prepared another incredible meal for the final supper. After this, we retreated to the village billiards room for a few hours of pool to celebrate such a successful trip. Thank you to Jamal, Mohamed, and Kabouz for such an unforgettable adventure! We cannot wait to return in the future to see more of the High Atlas with you guys. Thank you also to Abdul Hakim for your wise words of wisdom as we embarked on our voyage. P.S. be very careful who you call "Berber" in these parts, as this is derogatory and the locals prefer to be called "Amarzigh". P.S.S. Bring suncream.
