  • Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - Yu Garden is the largest of Shanghai’s ancient gardens with Ming and Qing architectural styles. Yu Garden is small in size, but it contains all elements that a classical Chinese garden should have. The pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds and cloisters all have unique characteristics. The garden has six areas, each with its own style. The Grand Rockery, in the center of the Garden, is the most renowned sight. You can walk to the Zigzag Nine Bend Bridge. Chinese people believe that the number nine symbolizes auspiciousness. Walking across the Bridge is said to bring people good luck. The Bridge leads to Mid-Lake Pavilion Teahouse, which is the oldest teahouse in Shanghai.

Along its 5.5 kilometers, you will find over 600 shops that on average are visited by some 1.7 million people each day. Here, you could purchase everything wanted, spanning from special and cheap souvenirs to the luxurious world famous brands. Soak in the bustle of this pedestrianized street, a microcosm of modern China, and take a stroll to peruse the stores and purchase souvenirs.

We will visit Sun Yat-sen’s traditional home, a bustling local food and vegetable market, the Sinan Mansions compound, and the Yu Garden. As we journey, we will witness Tai Chi demonstrations and learn the craft of making homemade dumplings. A native-style lunch is also on the agenda.
