Observing local women washing clothes in the river as their children play nearby, is where your journey to the Maya Temple begins, via the quaint hand-operated ferry that has transported countless visitors to and from this serene destination. Once there, you’ll leave your horse and proceed to Xunantunich on the other riverbank. Amidst the dense rainforest, the temples stand concealed, the surrounding trees blooming in vibrant hues of red, yellow, orange or pink when in season. Don’t forget to bring a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray, as well as a receptive mind, ready to embrace simplicity and the opportunity to step into another world for a few hours.
