Additional Information

This walk is customized according to the interests of the traveler, it can be done in the Sierra or in La Bufa. You will hear anecdotes of old feats that occurred on the Camino Real Tierra Adentro. This road from the 16th century was one of the great feats of our history, since it made possible the transfer, settlement and migration of people, religion, traditions and merchandise from Mexico City to Santa Fe in New Mexico.
The term Tierra Adentro referred to the lands far from the coast that, because they were unknown to the Spaniards, were risky, while they were already known to the natives, especially in the north where these brave Chichimeca warriors were found. The silver and gold deposits were the incentive to enter the paths full of surprises and dangers; the unexpected always loomed beyond the undulations of the terrain that blocked the view….

Gorgeous views of Guanajuato - Antonio picked my dad and I up from our hotel and drove us through the fantastic tunnel network running through the city. He was a font of knowledge about Guanajuato, so that even before we had reached the Bufa hills we had learned a great deal. Our guide was very patient and conversational with us, telling us a great deal about the city's mining history, mummies, local plants and animals and sports teams, mesoamerican history and geological undergirdings, all while the area's scenery opened up as we ascended. This is a strenuous hike so good shoes and a walking stick are advised, especially for those worried about their knees.

Excellent option to get to know Guanajuato from another perspective - The walk was incredible, it was through a protected natural area, you can't imagine that there is such a beautiful and well-kept place just a few minutes from Guanajuato, our guide Susana is super friendly and explains everything very well, plus she was very punctual and He gave us excellent food and drink recommendations, it was definitely a great experience highly recommended.

beautiful hike - great guides - I have done the La Bufa hike twice with Cacomixtle – once with Antonio and most recently with Susana. This is a great hike of easy-to-moderate difficulty that I would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, and Susana and her team are great guides to show you the way and provide whatever background on the area, or Guanajuato generally, that you want. The “reward” at the end of the hike – a beautiful panoramic view of Guanajuato – is very special. Cacomixtle does such a great job tailoring the tour to whatever may interest you.

Best Tour in Mexico - I had a great tour with Susana in the Santa Rosa area -- I learnt so much about Guanajuato city and the hike we did I learnt all about the flora and fauna of the area. After the hike she was kind enough to extend the time and take me to a restaurant and ordered local delicacies that I would have otherwise never tried. It was a really lovely and memorable day and anyone that chooses to do this tour would also find it this way. I really really recommend this tour!!

Hiking in La Bufa to the cross at 2600m - I thought it was a group tour, but it turned out to be a private tour. the guide Antonio didn't take me to Santa Rosa, but instead took a short drive to La Bufa south east of Guanajuato, which is the big cross on top of the mountain as advertised. It was an adventurous hike taking 2 hours up & down, not for beginners and the unfit though. One feels acomplished having reached the cross and you have the entire Guanajuato under your feet. I really appreciate Antonio who is very experienced and I will be back.

Walk, talk and discover the tranquil Sierra mountains above Guanajuato - We had a wonderful and inspiring time with Susana. The walk was beautiful and very peaceful. Susana is such a treasure trove of knowledge and way better than our guide books. We also stoped off at the amazing ceramics shop and bought some items there . Highly recommend this tour.

Wonderful and knowledgeable guide - My friend and I visited Guanajuato for a 5-day Encaustic Art Workshop. We decided to extend our stay to explore this gorgeous town for a few more days. One of those days we arranged to do an easy 5-km hike with Susana in the Sierras de Santa Rosa. It was wonderful to see a different side of Guanajuato, literally from the mountains. Susana and her father are both from Guanajuato, and their love and knowledge of the area shows. Susana is quite knowledgeable about the local flora, which was fortunate as my friend loves to compare plants from where we live on her travels. In addition, a lovely local man from Santa Rosa de Lima joined us for part of our hike as he wanted to chat with us about his travels in the USA. Susana modified our hike so we could spend more time talking w/Jesus, which was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the people and land in this area. After the hike, my Apple Watch clocked in at 4.3 miles, which was perfect for us! Thank you so much, Susana, for an awesome morning.
