Great half day tour at Himeji Castle! - My tour guide was Hiro. She met me at the train station and proceeded with the tour from there. Hiro was very knowledgeable of the castle, its history, and the surrounding area since she is a local too! Her English was great! Himeji Castle is a world heritage site and one of the few remaining original castles in Japan. I visited Himeji Castle on a beautiful, sunny day in mid April. Due to the timing, I was able to see some cherry blossoms fortunately! A great bonus! Also, my timing aligned with the Special Spring Exhibition for the interconnecting towers. The cost for the exhibition was 1000 yen, in addition to the ~1000 yen cost of the combined castle and gardens ticket. I would highly recommend having cash on hand. Hiro's tour highlighted the castle defenses and history. She also knew the best spots to take pictures! Once inside the castle towers, you will be required to take off your shoes. Make sure you have good socks or a pair of slippers. Carrying a bag for your shoes is recommended too. The flooring is mostly original, so this is meant to protect it from damage. While inside, Hiro highlighted some of the key architectural features like the main pillars, gun/archery holes, etc. The castle is multiple levels, so be prepared to go up stairs a few times. They can be steep and a little slippery too! At the top, there's a shrine and great views of the surrounding town. After going inside the main castle tower, we toured the interconnecting towers. You get unique views of the main tower along with the surrounding area. Everything is well maintained, quite impressive! There were also some weapon props like spears and guns. After touring the inside of the castle, we took a quick stroll on the perimeter. Here's where you get some great shots of the castle with cherry blossoms! The castle tour took about 3.5 hours total, with the remaining time for Koko-en, the gardens located close by. The gardens are not as old as the castle, but a nice change of pace. Hiro provided some of the history along with her knowledge of the various flora. My tour ended up being close to 5 hours total. At the end, Hiro helped me find a place to eat and dropped me off there. As a solo traveler, having a great tour guide and a local to spend time with added so much to the experience. Thank you so much Hiro! I would highly recommend Hiro and the Japan Guide Agency!

Lovely views, great tour and amazing Guide - We had an amazing day at Himeji! Yama-san was our guide and he is very knowledgable, kind and funny. We booked the four hour tour which was enough time for us to see different locations. Yama-san has a quick step BUT he gladly slows down for you if you ask him, no problem :)) Initiary was planned beforehand with Yama-san and he adjusted the schedule to our liking. Very easy and not complicated at all. Yama-sans sister even made us some pouches to keep, so sweet! Highlight of the tour was definitely the castle itself, great views from the top and lovely sight itself. Hoghly recommend going, preferably with Yama-san! Arigato gozaimasu, Yama-san :)

Fantastic Experience with Yama-son - My 12 year old son and I had a great tour, first to the Lord‘s Garden and then Himeji Castle. Yama-son was a fantastic guide, fun, informative, and knowledgeable. He responded very well to questions and wishes. I can highly recommend him. Also, his English is of very high quality.

Great guided tour of Himeji Castle - We had an amazing experience at Himrji castle with Rie. This was one of our favorite activities while we were in Japan. The castle itself is stunning, especially during sakura seasonz and it was an easy day trip from Osaka. Rie is an excellent guide, and she signficantly elevated our experience at the castle. She is very friendly and informative. We learned a lot more on our tour than we could have ever learned just going on our own. I would highly recommend the guided tour with Rie if you get the chance.

A wonderful Himeji castle tour with Yumiko - The Himeji castle tour was one of the highlights of our stay in Japan. It is a beautiful castle and we were lucky to visit it during the peak of the sakura blossoms. Yumiko was a wonderful guide and we enjoyed her tour very much. She also was very flexible when we asked for a last minute change.
