Highlights
  • Angel Rocks Trailhead - This 3.5 mile loop leads through amazing rock formations.

Starting at the trail head parking lot the hike leads us along the Chena River. After passing a small stream over mossy rocks, the trail climbs uphill winding past a large valley and viewpoint. The trail is wide and maintained at the beginning eventually turning into a typical footpath, well marked with rock cairns.

Angel Rock is famous for its many rock outcrops and granite tors which were formed over thousands of years and tower over the Angel Creek Valley offering wonderful vistas and a place to catch your breath and take pictures.

At the top, 1.8 miles from the trail head, the trail runs along the ridge. The area around the rocks is pleasant, the stunning view from Angel Rocks down into the Angel Creek Valley is gorgeous, the ridge that follows Chena Dome Trail is just fantastic. We will have ample time and opportunities to do some exploring of the area and learn about the ecosystem.

There is always a good chance to spot wildlife such as beavers, grouse, moose, black bears or grizzly bears just to name a few (please note, not guaranteed).

Awesome Challenging Doable - Awesome hike. Challenging but fun. Very doable. Wear sturdy shoes, we slipped some going down. Our guide, Stephanie was wonderful. She was knowledgeable of the flowers and trees. It was a very good hike with great views.

Great way to finish our trip to Alaska. - Susie was our guide and she was excellent. Wonderful personality and excited to do her job. The trail is beautiful and is correctly marked as a moderate trail. The hike is worth the view at the top.

Ricky -- A++ - Very, very beautiful. Even at the base of the hike, there was a beautiful overlook on the river. Ricky was our tour guide -- amazing. He is pretty talkative, but in the best way. He has a lot of great and funny stories to share through his 13 years of tour guide experience. The best part is you don't really have to reply all the time either. You can just listen and he'll continue his stories. He did not rush us one bit which was great. It is a bit of steep hike, but it has a lot of beautiful overlooks. One of those places where pictures do NOT do it justice, trust me. You have to see it in person to get the full effect. Ricky, 5 stars. The hike, 5 stars.

Hike - It was a nice hike but the guide talked way too much about his personal life and he talked the whole drive back and we didn’t even respond. He stopped all the time to talk during hike too
