Great tour and stress free day trip - We were glad we did this, as it offered us many other stops along the way that one wouldn’t have time to do if they were driving themselves. One other review here mentioned that normal passenger vehicles were at the final destination, which had me second guessing our choice to use this company and tour. While true, I would not want to drive the F-roads up there. Taking this tour had us flying through the roads 2x or 3x the speed that other people were taking their rental cars at, and the ride was pretty smooth, with many stops and branches/paths taken that most people don’t go to. Once at the top destination we could hike or go into the thermal water. What I didn’t know until I saw people doing it was you aren’t just limited to the area by the water entrance. You could walk, wade, swim along the water upstream towards the sources. All in all, I would do it again and recommend it over taking the risk and driving it yourself.

Best jeep tour with hike - I took the Landmannalaugar tour today. The driver/guide was Awesome. It was peaceful not to drive on gravel roads and see all cool places. I will highly recommend this tour and this company!

Awe inspiring views - Fantastic trip to Landmannalaugar in the first of the winter snow. Margaret was our guide and was friendly, knowledgeable and good fun. The views were incredible and we enjoyed a good hike around a lava field. I'd recommend this trip, and Margaret as a guide, very highly.

The highlight of our 3-week trip to Iceland - The Southcoast Adventures Landmannalaugar Tour is SO worth the price! My 23-year-old daughter and I spent a truly amazing day on this fabulous 10-hour tour. We took the tour on August 27, which is close to the end of the main tourist season in Iceland, so we were lucky to be the only two guests on the tour that day. (I was so impressed that Southcoast Adventures had not canceled the tour on us. Top marks to them for valuing their customers!) We were also blessed with perfect weather and the best guide ever, Alberto, who was highly experienced, super friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the area we visited with him (he also gave us great advice about other interesting sites to visit along the south coast and Vestmannaeyjar). Alberto stopped at all the best lookouts both on the way to Landmannalaugar and during our hike through it. For example, on the way there, he stopped so we could hike up to a vantage point where we could see for miles. It was such a clear day, we could see three of Iceland's major glaciers at the same time in the distance! Perhaps most important to me as a mother, Alberto was very safety conscious throughout the day. He was an excellent driver, and he always set up the steps and helped us in and out of the massive converted Mercedes van (the wheels are well over three feet tall, so the door is located about 30 inches off the ground!). He also provided hiking poles and modeled where best to plant our feet as we hiked up and down the lava bed in Landmannalaugar. But perhaps best of all, Alberto never rushed us as we stopped to take a zillion photos of this beautiful, magical place! Thank you, Southcoast Adventures, and especially to Alberto, for giving us a truly memorable day in Landmannalaugar! (Note: We had the option of soaking in the geothermal pool located near the base camp at Landmannalaugar, but we opted to concentrate on hiking instead to see as much as we could visit in a day.)

Fantastic experience - We had an amazing experience on this tour. Our driver (Elias) was knowledgeable and had the perfect balance of sharing information but also giving us time to reflect and enjoy the breathtaking landscape of Iceland. Highly recommend this company, tour, and driver!

South Coast for the win on customer service! - We wish there was a 6th star for South Coast Adventures. They were so helpful for our family of 4 in supporting us on the trip of a lifetime in Iceland. The office was so helpful (thank you Sitka!) in answering all our questions and helping us customize an experience that was perfect for our family. We arranged for private transfer from Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar by super Jeep to begin our 4 day trek on the Laugevegur trail. They helped us port luggage from hut to hut each day which allowed us to carry less weight on the trail and bring more comforts with us on the trip. All of the South Coast staff was friendly, patient and helpful. We had no problems and this is a logistically challenging thing to do. Our driver, Virgo, was AWESOME! Our kids loved him and he had so much information about this amazing land to offer. He made sure we were comfortable and made stops to make sure we saw the best sights on our way to and from the inland mountains. We requested him for our return since we loved him so much. All the cars we rode in were amazing. The first super Jeep was HUGE! We were picked up right in front of our hotel which was quite the spectacle. On the return we had a brand new Jeep and then transferred to a brand new Tesla for the city portion of our return. The jeeps drive THROUGH rivers. It really is an amazing experience to have a private guide for this. If you do, and you get Viggo, you are sure to have the trip of a lifetime as well!

Geothermal swim in the Landmannalaugar snow - Amazing guide in Ingvar. Prepared us well for the 10 hour round trip journey. Entertaining and knowledgeable along the way. Even shared his fish jerky! Drove through wide open snow fields with beautiful views culminating in a swim in the geothermal pools at Landmannalauger. Not another soul around.

Beautiful, fascinating, and a great company! - The views were spectacular. The jeep was super cool and pretty comfortable. The hike was gorgeous and had several different cool features for a relatively short and accessible hike. Fascinating colorful rock, geothermal area, lava field, and mountains. Ingvar took care of us well, drove great, was very knowledgeable, and knew all the best spots to show us. Staff dealt with our scheduling mishap very kindly!

No go for us - We did this tour the last week of May, and there is clearly a reason other tour companies don’t offer this until mid-June. We spent the whole time in the Jeep with about an hour at Landmannalaugar, where every trail was closed. It was treacherous driving conditions. In fact, our driver (who was very skilled and thankfully got us there and back safely) shared that he had gotten stuck for 6+ hours 2 days before and had to wait for help. Maybe it’s great in peak summer, but I’d save your time and your money. It was out only bad day of 12 days in Iceland - way more to see and do elsewhere.

Landmannalaugar Superjeep is useless - Landmannalaugar, the highlands and all the landscapes we saw are totally worth seeing but… you absolutely don’t need a « super jeep » tour to do so in summertime. Out of the 5 things advertised, we did 3 and didn’t do the crater and « driving up the volcano » stuffs that we especially wanted to do. All the tracks we took were also driven by big buses and Dacia Dusters. We were expecting to go on more crazy tracks, tracks than only a « super jeep » can go on and not also Dusters and 4x4 campervans, we were expecting more of a bumpy ride. From 9:30 to 12:30 it’s only drive, only one 1min stop. Then 3h30 in Landmannalaugar (which is at the end less time on site than when you come by bus). You’re leaving at 16h, on the way out, we stopped to 3 points of interest but it’s just 5min stops so you don’t get the time to explore… Quite disappointed to pay that amount of money (around 280€ each) to do stuffs we could have done by bus or by renting a small 4x4. Out of our 1 month in Iceland this was our BIG activity and we should have put our money elsewhere. At this price they don’t even offer any snacks or drink during the 10h trip.
