Highlights
  • Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s House - Once the home of children’s author and illustrator Beatrix Potter. This 17th-century house in Near Sawrey, Hawkshead was where her many children’s books were brought to life. It’s traditional stone walls and slate roof are typical of the area and became a Grade II listed building. Beatrix left the house and much of her other buildings and land to the National Trust in her will. Hill Top now serves as an insight into her life in the Lake District.

Lovely driver, but needed a guide - Ou driver was friendly and accommodating, making sure we had wonderful views of the lake country. However, we wanted to learn about Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin and William Wordsworth, their lives and experiences. Both Potter’s house AND museum were closed ( we were told the house was closed on Fridays, but the museum would be open) the “tour” at Brentwood was a 3 minute talk and then a wander thru the house. The Wordsworth museum was the best, well done, but self directed thru signage. It would have been more valuable (especially considering the price) to have a guide along who could give us commentary along the way with knowledge on these famous writers.
