- Miyajima - Renowned as one of Japan’s most picturesque locations, Miyajima is celebrated for the iconic floating torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. Stroll through its charming streets, encounter the island’s friendly deer, and soak in the serene ambiance of this historic island. With a local guide, discover the island’s culture, history, and hidden gems beyond the main tourist spots.
- Daishoin - Daishō-in or Daisyō-in is a historic temple complex featuring numerous temples and statues on Mount Misen, the sacred mountain on the island of Itsukushima, near Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, Japan. It is the 14th temple in the Chūgoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage and is renowned for its maple trees and their vibrant autumn colors.
- Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street - This bustling area is filled with souvenir shops and snack stalls, leading the way to the iconic Itsukushima Shrine.
- Itsukushima Jinja - Miyajima (宮島) is a small island located less than an hour from Hiroshima. It is famed for its large torii gate, which appears to float on the water at high tide, and is considered one of Japan’s top three scenic views.
Though officially named Itsukushima, the island is more commonly known as Miyajima, meaning “shrine island” in Japanese, due to its strong association with Itsukushima Shrine. Like the torii gate, the shrine’s main structures are built over water.
Miyajima offers a romantic setting, best experienced by staying overnight at one of the island’s ryokan. While the island is often bustling with day tourists, it becomes much quieter and more tranquil in the evening. The island is also home to wild deer that are accustomed to humans. During the day, the deer roam the same sites as tourists, and at night, they rest along the walking paths.
- Tenshinkaku - Tenshinkaku (天心閣) is a traditional Japanese single-story house café located on a hill in Miyajima. It offers stunning views of Toyokuni Shrine, the five-story pagoda, and the Seto Inland Sea.
