Additional Information

Immerse yourself in the marvels of Elbphilharmonie, one of the world’s biggest and technologically superior concert arenas and Hamburg’s recent signature landmark. Experience the captivating narrative of the structure’s development from a hospitable guide as you appreciate the architectural wonder and picturesque panorama of the Elbe River.

In line with Elbphilharmonie’s prerequisites, each service provider facilitating access to the Plaza for visitors must include ‘Elbphilharmonie-Plaza (Tour)’ in their tour names. This, however, does not guarantee that tours on the Elbphilharmonie-Plaza will be operated by guides.

You will have the opportunity to visit Elphi Plaza without having to queue during your tour.

Elbphilharmonie reserves the right, in rare and extraordinary circumstances (primarily for security reasons), to deny access to the Plaza. In such an occurrence, we will promptly refund the relevant amount.

Lovely! - Wonderful funfacts and very engaging guide. We would have loved to see the actual concerthalls, but understand the impossibily of the situation.

Very Interesting tour - We have been visiting Hamburg to visit family since 1991 and this was probably the first time we have done a guided tour of any of the popular sights. This opera house/music hall was only completed in 2016 and makes very interesting viewing, particularly to those with an interest in acoustics. The architecture is fascinating without being awe-inspiring. An interesting comparison was made in the brochure to the Sydney Opera House, but acoustics aside, it "ain't no Sydney Opera House!" Nevertheless, the tour guide made for a really enjoyable experience and one that I'd recommend for anyone visiting this picturesque city

A must-do tour to understand this amazing building - A fascinating building - and the story was told in an engaging and thorough manner by our guide Andre. Very lucky to be only 2 solo travellers with this guide so we got to hear all about this stunning building and have all our questions answered. Would highly recommend!

Helpful overview but beware concert halls not included - Good German-language tour with a guide, Tobias, who was very knowledgeable and passionate but did speak a little quickly to follow everything. Good overview of the building, its history and design elements. It was a bit anti-climactic to not get to see the main attraction (the performance spaces) but this was noted in the upfront tour description so it wasn't a surprise.

underwhelmed - Too expensive for a 1 hour tour. Unfortunately nothing special that would justify the fee. We left a bit underwhelmed.

Nice view of the harbour, but that's it - We booked the tour for a saturday 11 a.m. On friday 11 a.m. we got a e-mail, reminding us of the tour and time. Then on friday at 11 p.m. (!) we got a new e-mail, that the tour would be delayed for one hour and start not until 12 a.m. I think this to be poor treatment of customers. Now to the tour itself. First was a view from the outside, then going up to the plaza. The guide told us some facts about the building, then we went to walk around the outside. There he explained some other facts about the city and the harbour. All things considered I think the price of 19 € is too high for what you get.

Poor building poor tour - We spent most of our hour of visit outside the building listening to the guide telling us about everything that went wrong during the whole design, build and start-up of the building. When we finally went in, there was an escalator taking us to the gallery level. The guide added a few words and then ended his tour leaving us at the coffee shop of the building. We had not seen the main target of our trip: the concert hall. We left disappointed: not only about what we had seen as a result of the Swiss Architectural work (an oversized megablock of a building lacking the necessary artistic appeal) but even more about the overpriced "tour" which gave us hardly any information about the building.

Expensive and below expectations - For people that like to have a structured, informative tour, I would not recommend this tour. The guide lacked a coherent story and was 99% of the time cynical in his way of explaining the building of Elbphilharmonie. The main topic was the price of the different opponents of the building, absurdly according to the tour guide. This caused for a, subjective, negative approach on the architects and architecture instead of an objective explanatory approach you expect from a tour that costs 19(!!) euro. In the end the tour guide switched the narrative that the Hamburgers are actually happy with the building.. When I approached the tour guide afterwards to express my opinion he told me this tour was suppose to be cynical and the tour was more to be entertaining than to be informative. For the 19(!!) euro you receive acces to the plaza (which is free if you wait in line) and less than an hour of speeding around from the metro to the building and around the plaza. I would recommend for people that are interested in the Elbphilharmonie to reserve a tour provided by the Elbphilharmonie itself (which gives acces to the concert halls!!) or read 1-2 articles on the internet and walk around by yourself. Both will provide a better experience and cost less than this tour.
