Absolutely amazing! - 10/10 Everything in the smallest detail exceeded my expectations. First of all, from the very beginning you can feel that the horses are loved and cared for in this stable. The staff - both reception and guides - are very friendly, calm but also professional. It was my first time and I was taught the basics well and felt safe on horseback with the guides. The trail is amazing, you go through lava fields and there are mountains all around. It was great and after this experience I am even thinking of starting a new hobby!

Incredible Experience! - This entire experience was incredible! My 8yr old daughter and myself went. We had assumed she wouldn't be able to ride alone, so she was quite nervous when she was brought her own horse to ride. The staff however was so positive and encouraging. They reassured her, reminded her how to hold the reins. During the ride our guide ended up having her next to her and they talked the whole way! At the end she let my daughter ride in all by herself, and now my daughter wants to go again! Our other guide was fantastic about reminding us about riding tips (pull the reins to the right, stay to the right of the trail, lean back going downhill), telling us about the lava field, she also used our phones to take photos of us on the horses!

Making wonderful memories! - We booked a 1.5 hour lava field tour with Ishestar after seeing their flyer at one of the bus stops (and verifying them using Tripadvisor reviews!) What an amazing experience! We paid for pickups included, which were timely and efficient and when we got there, free coffee, tea and hot chocolate was available, a seating area and a small shop. We were shown a safety video, which had clear instructions and acted as a great reminder as I’ve not ridden a horse for several years. We were then kitted out in warm all in one suits and hats and dependent on our experience, we were then led to a horse. I can’t remember the name of my horse, but she was described as being a ‘sweet girl’ and she most certainly was. Everything about this experience was credible and competent, with clear care towards the horses and the people riding them to ensure everyone’s safety. We had three staff with our group, which split into two as we got going - the walking group, supported by two staff and the experienced group, supported by one staff. The horses were also given a rest break an hour into the experience and we were also able to get some photos at this time. When we got back to the stable, there was just the right amount of time to say goodbye to our horses, grab a drink and a souvenir before our lift back into Reykjavík. This experience is one that will stay with me for the rest of my life, I’m so happy and grateful for everyone at Ishestar and especially the horses x

Wonderful memory which will be treasured - As occasional riders we were all swiftly reassured from the outset that the ride would be suitable for us as a family and the venue we left from was very nice with coffee and snacks available. After a short video about the trip we were offered (and gratefully accepted) very warm suits to go over our cloths against the cold. Once wrapped up we were introduced to our horses for the day based I’m sure on our size and experience and I was very happy with the wonderful Pjakkur who was the bestest of boys. The ride itself was very pleasant and the view as you would expect superb. The guides Barbora, Elisa and Janina were all very attentive and chatty as we rode with little bits of knowledge about Iceland and the horses given as we rode and especially when we stoped to give the horses a break. Would highly recommend this trip to anyone no matter your previous experience with horses.

Great ride! - I booked the Viking Tour for my daughter who is an experienced rider and she had a wonderful experience! She and one other rider went out with a guide for several hours on beautiful trails. The communication with the stable beforehand was excellent and the staff were wonderful. The facility was easy to get to from Reykjavik, very clean and organized, and the ponies seemed happy and well cared-for. So glad we chose Ishestar and would definitely do it again!

organized tour - I booked the lava horse tour. We purchased a pick-up. At the horse riding center we all watched a video. I think that is a great idea, to educate everyone about the most important things about horse riding. Although most explanations included riding with using the reins and not the seat for example. This is probably easier to explain and the horses there may be more used to that. We got our riding gear afterwards and if needed could also get warm suits etc. One person then asked each person individually abouth their riding experiences and chose one of the already saddled horses that would suit the best. I also want to highlight positively that there was a guide next to us when mounting the horse, which held the other side of the saddle and adjusted the stirrups if needed. This is also very nice for the horse and the rider. After a couple minutes of riding, the group split into a group that continued in walking tempo and the other group continued in trot or tölt. It was good to have a couple minutes of riding before deciding to get to know the horse and the own abilities. In the faster group we did quite a few times trot/tölt. We did a photo stop in between and the guide took photos of us individually. The landscapes were beautiful. The trails were still icy at some points, but the horses are used to that. The guides made sure that we felt comfortable. They also seemed to know the horses, despite the number of horses, very well. The horses have 6 months off, which is more than required by law (?). At the end of the tour we could either stay a bit at the paddock or get inside. Hot Chocolate was provided. The weather was luckily very beautiful and the views were great.

Excellent horses and staff, 5 ⭐️ - Such a lovely welcoming group of staff. From being greeted, to meeting the horses, being assigned a horse and the ride it was fantastic. Warm clothing of coveralls is provided however gloves need to be purchased. The instructors were very knowledgable and I liked they split the ride for experience meaning those with more could go at a faster pace. Execellent horse, very lovely temperament. Would definitely recommend coming here to ride. There is a more experienced ride in the afternoon I didn’t know about, if I did I would have definitely joined! Thank you again!

Fantastic! - I did the Viking ride yesterday and it was fantastic! The horses are lovely and our guide was great, friendly and informative. The ride itself was beautiful, through the trails in the snow with wonderful views. Plenty of tolt and canter :) Cantering through the snow was something I’ll not forget! I really hope to come back again!

Icelandic horse tour - Views were phenomenal! You'll ride to an overlook and get to see an inactive volcanoe. They'll give an option to split off into a fast or slow group, I recommend the fast. Even inexperienced riders can do it (as I am) and you'll not be left behind! Altogether 5/5 experience!

Could not have asked for better! - I had the most amazing time! I was lucky enough to ride 1-2-1 with a guide (pot luck) who was fabulous in talking me through how to ride the Tölt correctly as well as teaching me so much about the origins of the Icelandic horse, their union, shoeing style and the land in which they were bred. They chose the horse perfectly based on my previous riding experience so I was really able to enjoy the ride at a faster pace. The facility is set up in an amazing way whether you're a rider or spectator. I 100% would recommend a visit. It was the highlight of my trip and we did a lot whilst in Iceland!
