  • Sörlaskeið 26 - Before the Lava Tour starts we organize the groups according to riding ability to ensure everyone gets an experience and adventure they want! The slow group will mostly walk and the faster group will ride at a faster pace. If you like to gallop we recommend our Viking tour or Viking Express tour. We recommend that children under the age of 12 stay in the slower group with their guardians unless they are used to riding horses. Our stables are located a short 20-minute drive outside of Reykjavik’s city center. This horseback riding tour is a perfect way to experience the versatility of Icelandic nature in only 2 hours.

Interesting ride - Beautiful, well kept facility. Knowledgeable and friendly guides. Horses know the routine. More experienced riders can go with a “faster” group, which is nice. All in all a very nice experience.

Great experience - I'm glad I was able to have this experience. Our guides worked with varying degrees of experience in our group, and they told us about Icelandic horses and the landscape we rode through. We saw two arctic foxes, and I even was able to tolt a bit 😃

A must for equine enthusiasts. - My daughters and I have been riding together for years. This bucket list item did not disappoint. The horses were happy, well maintained and the guides were lovely. We left wanting to book one of their longer multi-day excursions. They do have options for all riders (beginners to experience). The views were breathtaking and they stopped and took our photos for us.

So Much Fun! - We had a wonderful experience. We were picked up from Reykjavik and taken to the Ishestar facilities which were just 20 minutes outside the city. After a short introductory video, we were introduced to our horses and embarked on a lovely stroll through the property. The staff were very kind and helped us along the way including mounting/dismounting and directing our horses. The staff also took many pictures of us on the horses which was honestly the only way to get high quality pics of our time there. Coveralls were provided to help deal with the cold weather.

These horses stole my heart! - What an amazing experience. These Icelandic horses are amazing. They remind me of huge lap dogs. They had such personalities and you could tell how much each of the staff truly loves all the horses. There’s a mutual love between the horses and staff that just made this tour such an amazing experience especially with me being such an animal lover. Highlight of my trip for sure. Staff guiding the tour was amazing as well… such a lovely, friendly staff of ladies. I miss the horses already!

Average horseback riding experience - This is a very average horseback ride where complete beginners can walk in a line and those experienced can try the tolt (kinda like a fast gaited walk) about halfway, but also in a single file line. I was hoping for something more engaging. I've ridden across Europe and the states and this was one of my least favorite rides, yet the most expensive. The guides were nice enough, but the horses were in need of basic grooming and the tack was marginally clean. The horses all knew their job and would simply follow the leader. Perhaps with more digging around the internet you can find other options for horseback riding that are less commercial and dictated.
