The Journey Begins: Hanoi to Ha Giang

Leaving the bustling streets of Hanoi behind, I embarked on a journey that promised to be both thrilling and culturally enriching. The 4 Days Ha Giang Loop Tour was something I had heard whispers about from fellow backpackers, and I was eager to experience it for myself. As we continued our ride, the landscape unfolded like a painting, with mountains, rivers, and lakes creating a breathtaking backdrop.

In Yên Minh, we visited a family known for their handicrafts and weaving. It was fascinating to see the intricate work that goes into creating their traditional clothing. Our day ended with a stay at a homestay, where we enjoyed a hearty dinner and shared stories with our hosts, a perfect end to a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Conquering the Legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass

The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the Ma Pi Leng Pass, often referred to as the “king” of Vietnam’s passes. The road, known as Happiness Road, connected Dong Van and Meo Vac, and the views were nothing short of awe-inspiring. As we rode along the winding path, the craggy cliffs and breathtaking vistas left me speechless. Standing at the peak, I felt a sense of accomplishment and wonder, surrounded by the majestic mountains and the serene Nho Que River below.

Our journey took us through remote villages, where I gained insight into the lives of the people who call these rugged landscapes home. In Meo Vac, we stopped for lunch and continued our adventure through the mountainous trails to Du Gia Village. Here, we stayed with a Tay Minority family, sharing a meal and enjoying their “happy water,” a local rice wine that added a touch of warmth to the chilly evening.

As our tour came to an end, we made our way back to Ha Giang City, passing through valleys adorned with terraced rice paddies and traditional villages.
