A Rainy Start, But a Promising Adventure

The day began with a downpour, the kind that makes you want to curl up with a good book and a cup of coffee. But there I was, in Guapiles, ready to take on the Canopy Zip Line through the rainforest canopy. The rain was relentless, but it didn’t dampen my spirits. After all, as a surfer, I’m no stranger to getting wet. We decided to grab some lunch before hitting the lines, hoping the rain would let up. The meal was delicious, and the atmosphere was just what you’d expect from a place nestled in the heart of nature—serene and inviting.

As we finished our meal, the rain began to ease, and the anticipation of the zip line adventure started to build. I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nerves, the kind you get before paddling out into a big swell. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable, ensuring we were all geared up and ready to go. I was particularly relieved to learn that they handled the braking for us, a nice change from other zip lines where you’re left to your own devices.

Soaring Through the Canopy

With the rain now a mere drizzle, we set off on our zip line adventure. The first few lines were exhilarating, offering breathtaking views of the lush mountain scenery and the Molinete River below. It was like riding a wave, the wind rushing past, the world a blur of green and blue. The guides were attentive, though there were a couple of close calls when they seemed distracted. But hey, that’s part of the thrill, right?

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Adrena-Line, the longest zip line in the region. At 2,297 feet, it was a half-mile of pure adrenaline. As I soared through the air, I couldn’t help but think of the waves I’ve chased across Central America. This was a different kind of rush, but equally as satisfying. The feeling of freedom, of being at one with nature, was something I cherished deeply.

A Birthday to Remember

This adventure was particularly special as it coincided with my birthday. Turning 35 while zipping through the rainforest was an experience I’ll never forget. It was a bucket list item, much like surfing some of the world’s best breaks. The day was a celebration of life, of adventure, and of the endless pursuit of thrills.

As we wrapped up the day, I couldn’t help but reflect on how fortunate I am to live this nomadic lifestyle, chasing waves and experiences like this one. The Canopy Zip Line in Guapiles is a must for any thrill-seeker. It’s a reminder that life is meant to be lived to the fullest, with a little rain never standing in the way of a great adventure.
