Highlights
  • Guanajuato - We began our journey by traversing the Sierra de Santa Rosa de Lima, made a stop at the City of Dolores Hidalgo to pay respects at the cemetery where Jose Alfredo Jimenez is interred. A renowned Mexican singer-songwriter, Jimenez penned a vast array of songs, predominantly in the genres of rancheras, huapangos, and corridos, all celebrated for their quality and the straightforwardness of their harmony, melody, and lyrics. We also visited Casa Miguel Hidalgo, where the ambiance and furnishings from the era have been meticulously reconstructed to showcase some of the personal belongings of the national hero, along with documents from the War of Independence, including priestly garments, a banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the initial decree abolishing slavery, and a funerary urn containing Hidalgo’s remains. Our tour continued with a visit to the parish of Dolores, the house of Handicrafts, and then we proceeded to the town of Atotonilco. Next, we explored the city of San Miguel de Allende, admiring its neo-Gothic parish from the outside and the birthplace of the insurgent Ignacio Allende. Our excursion concluded with a panoramic view from the San Miguel Allende lookout.
