From Waves to Wilderness: A Surfer’s Journey in Guanacaste

Trading the ocean’s embrace for the lush forest, I embarked on a thrilling adventure in Guanacaste. From horseback rides to zip lines, coffee tours to hot springs, this day was a perfect blend of excitement and relaxation.

Into the Heart of Guanacaste

As a seasoned surfer, I’ve spent countless hours chasing the perfect wave along the sun-drenched coasts of Central America. But every now and then, it’s refreshing to trade the salty embrace of the ocean for the lush embrace of the forest. That’s exactly what I did when I embarked on the Tropical Forest Adventure in Guanacaste Province. The journey began with a scenic drive from the RIU Palace, where the anticipation of the day’s adventures was palpable. Our driver, a local with a wealth of knowledge, made a pit stop at a charming strip mall. It was the perfect place to grab a coffee and a souvenir, setting the tone for the day ahead.

The adventure park, nestled near the majestic Rincon de la Vieja volcano, was a one-stop shop for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike. With a variety of activities on offer, I was eager to dive into the experience. The park’s reception area was welcoming, complete with locker rooms to stash our gear and change into swimsuits for the water-based activities. The excitement in the air was infectious, and I couldn’t wait to see what the day had in store.

A Day of Thrills and Tranquility

The adventure kicked off with a horseback ride through the verdant trails, offering glimpses of the region’s diverse wildlife. As someone who’s more accustomed to riding waves than horses, it was a delightful change of pace. The gentle sway of the horse beneath me was a soothing contrast to the adrenaline-pumping activities that lay ahead.

Next up was the zip line, a high-flying escapade that had my heart racing. Soaring above the canopy, I felt a rush akin to catching a perfect wave. The views were breathtaking, with the lush forest stretching out as far as the eye could see. It was a reminder of the beauty that lies beyond the coastline, waiting to be explored.

After the thrill of the zip line, we delved into the cultural side of the adventure with a coffee tour. As a coffee enthusiast, I relished the opportunity to learn about the process from bean to cup. The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans was intoxicating, and the tasting session was a highlight of the day.

Unwinding in Nature’s Spa

The adventure continued with a natural waterslide, a playful nod to the water-based fun I’m so fond of. The cool water was invigorating, and the laughter of fellow adventurers echoed through the trees. It was a reminder of the simple joys that nature provides.

As the day wound down, we indulged in a mud bath and hot springs, a perfect way to unwind after a day of excitement. The warm, mineral-rich waters were a balm for tired muscles, and the mud bath left my skin feeling rejuvenated. It was a moment of pure relaxation, a chance to reflect on the day’s adventures and the beauty of the natural world.

Lunch was a buffet-style feast, with an array of salads, rice, beans, and chicken that satisfied even the heartiest of appetites. The rice pudding dessert was the perfect sweet ending to a day filled with adventure and discovery.

As we made our way back to the RIU Palace, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experience. The Tropical Forest Adventure had offered a glimpse into the heart of Guanacaste, a reminder that there’s more to life than chasing waves. It’s about embracing the journey, wherever it may lead.
