Chasing Waves and Luxury: My Costa Rican Escape
In search of a luxurious escape, I embarked on a journey to Costa Rica’s Playa Conchal, eager to experience the renowned Westin Golf Resort and Spa. Join me as I recount the highs and lows of this sun-soaked adventure.
Arrival in Paradise
As a seasoned traveler and professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours chasing the perfect wave across Central America. This time, my journey took me to the sun-drenched shores of Costa Rica, where I decided to indulge in a bit of luxury with a private transfer from Liberia Airport to the Westin Golf Resort and Spa in Playa Conchal. The moment I stepped off the plane, I was greeted by a friendly driver holding a sign with my name, ready to whisk me away in a modern, air-conditioned mini-bus. The ride was smooth, and the driver was more than accommodating, offering to stop for photos or snacks along the way. It was the perfect start to what I hoped would be a relaxing getaway.
Exploring the Westin
Upon arrival at the Westin, I was immediately struck by the sheer size of the property. The sprawling resort boasted a beautiful beach, though it was a bit of a walk to get anywhere. The quaint streets and lush surroundings made for a picturesque setting, but I was taken aback by the number of vendors on the beach. They were persistent, and while I appreciate the local hustle, it did detract from the serene beach vibe I was hoping for. My room was a pleasant surprise, featuring a semi-private bedroom area, a spacious bathroom, and plenty of closet space. It was a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring.
Dining and Evening Activities
The culinary offerings at the Westin were a mixed bag. The Asian and Steakhouse restaurants served up some delightful dishes, but the Italian restaurant left much to be desired. I learned the hard way that dinner reservations were a must, and found myself dining at 8:45 pm each night. Breakfast and lunch at the international restaurant offered a variety of choices, though the quality was just average. The pina coladas, however, were a highlight, perfectly refreshing after a day in the sun. As the sun set, I was disappointed to find that most activities and the pool closed by 6 pm, leaving the evenings rather uneventful. The beach, though beautiful, was dark and quiet, lacking the vibrant nightlife I had hoped for. Despite these setbacks, the experience was a reminder of the laid-back, sun-soaked lifestyle that I cherish as a nomadic surfer.
