Highlights
  • Templo Expiatorio del Santisimo Sacramento - This majestic neo-gothic Catholic church will allow us to discover the history of the city’s religious conflicts, which are intrinsically linked to the cultural and economic influence of the US in Mexico. I will explain everything in detail as part of the tour.
  • Guadalajara Cathedral - This spectacular 16th-century renaissance Cathedral is the most emblematic religious site of Western Mexico. I will tell you its most interesting secrets!

We will also visit the four surrounding marvellous plazas where you will be impressed by the beauty of the novo-hispanic, baroque, art nouveau, and neoclassical architecture.

  • Teatro Degollado - We will visit the 19th-century neoclassical Degollado Teather and its sorrounding plazas and churches. The visit to the theather’s interior depends on the COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Mercado Libertad - This is the biggest indoor market in Latin America and the ultimate food and shopping paradise. Here you’ll get to admire the vast diversity of souvenirs, handicrafts and products while interacting with the local vendors.
  • Instituto Cultural Cabanas - This UNESCO Heritage Site (closed on Mondays) is home to the astonishing murals of Clemente Orozco, one of Mexico’s three greatest muralists alongside Diego Rivera and David Siqueiros (I will not go inside the museum with you since they have their own UNESCO-certified guides). The spectacular 19th-century neoclassical building was used as an orphanage until 1980 and is now one of the most prestigious cultural centers in Latin America.

Awesome day in Guadalajara with Diego - I was so much more than impressed with Diego and his tour. He is a skilled orator and a wealth of knowledge. Some people have great knowledge, but lack the ability to share it with others. Diego is one of the rare people who is both brilliant and a regular person when he speaks. We took a private tour because I am the kind of person who asks a lot of questions so I can fully understand the fine points that can be glossed over by lesser guides. Diego answered every question and even picked up not he fact that I would be asking them and began going much more in depth from the start of an areas description. I cannot recommend Diego highly enough.

Informative, incredible sights - Diego provided so much information regarding the history of Guadalajara, the architecture styles, the impact on existing cultures then- and how it all ties in to the city's current day identity. I had a great time walking around with him, was able to wander around sites freely, felt safe, and HIGHLY recommend taking his tour. I went on to tell the TelMex building story to others in CDMX. Diego's tour is detailed!! My only suggestion is to double check the calendar for any potential holidays: I booked for "Labor Day" and the museums were closed, though I greatly appreciated seeing Union/workers demonstrations and marches throughout the walk.

Best private tour there is!! - Diego was incredible! If you are looking for a personal tour of Guadalajara at your own pace he is wonderful. We learned so much of the history of Guadalajara and the tour took in all of the important places. He helped us with translating, a ride and helping us purchase things at the market. For this process you definitely get your moneys worth! Thank you Diego this was a highlight of our trip.

Happy Travelers - Diego was an exceptional tour guide. He knows and shares his extensive knowledge of early twentieth and nineteenth century history through the architecture and social and cultural development of Guadalajara. He is very personable, an excellent English speaker and very tuned into when we needed a little break or even a little personal story re writing his masters thesis. We highly recommend Tour Guide Diego and look forward to future tours with him as our guide.

Great guide. Jam packed walking tour! - Diego was such a gem. He was so knowledgeable and gave great insight into the history and culture of Guadalajara. He was able to customize our tour, so we could see key sights as well as have some local cuisine. There’s lots of walking, but easy. Nothing steep or challenging terrain. Walking shoes, sun protection, and water is a must. Diego also sent us a list of restaurants and bars based on our tastes for Tequila, Guadalajara, and Tlaquepaque. He was a great resource even after the tour. He has several tour options in Jalisco, and I would highly recommend. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him.

Beyond Expectations! - I highly recommend booking with Diego for any tours he offers. I had a solo travel day so I booked a private tour with Diego based on Tripadvisor recommendations. I can say my tour with Diego was beyond expectations. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Guadalajara - I don't think there's a block of the tour that he doesn't have information about. Diego is also very kind and easy to talk with. I hope to get back to Guadalajara in the future and will make sure to book early with Diego - as he books out months in advance. Diego, thank you again!
