Unforgettable Tour - This was truly off-the-beaten path and an unforgettable adventure. My mom and I did this tour together with Justin and it was incredibly fun. While there were times when we encountered some obstacles, he confidently led us through and helped us go at our own pace. When we got to the top, the views were unbelievable and Justin even pointed out some popular photo spots. After our hike, we went to a great local restaurant (I recommend you get beer as a beverage). Overall, we had a great time with Justin and would come back again!

Awesome Timely Walk - We had an awesome and amazing time understanding the history of the Great Wall of China from our tour guide , Mr Peter. The view that he shown us is indeed spectacular! Not forgetting Mr Xiao Long, our assigned driver had also done a wonderful job in making sure that we covered all that was in the customised itinerary. Great local farmhouse restaurant lunch recommendation!

Spectacular views, a great team experience! - We booked this tour with Catherine Lu Tours as a team-building event after participating in an international congress in Beijing. After a comfortable 1.5-hr minibus drive from our hotel in Beijing, we started the hike with a steep climb up to the old wall at Jiankou, from where the views are simply breathtaking. We then continued walking along different sections of the wall, with up-/down-hill bits and several stairs, leading to the renovated part at Mutianyu, with its UNESCO World Heritage landmark. At the end of the hike, we took the toboggan down, which was good fun for the team! Our guide, Peter, shared many historical facts with us and took time to chat with each team member. Professional and tailored customer assistance by Catherine, all the way from answering questions before booking to following up with us after the trip. A great experience with plenty of lasting memories!

An amazing experience - If you want to hike on the “wild” unrestored portions of the Great Wall, this is a great guided hike. It was completely different from the crowded sections of the Great Wall that most tourists visit. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive to the wall and another 1.5 hours driving back. The hike itself is about 5 miles (8 km) and takes 3-4 hours, depending on how often you stop to rest and take pictures. The first mile getting to the wall is a bit strenuous, but nothing that an experienced hiker can’t handle. Once you reach the wall it is not that challenging. Justin was an excellent guide and companion for the trip — I learned a lot about the history and construction of the wall from him. We didn’t have great weather the day I did this hike so my photos are very different from what you would normally see on a clear day.

Amazing tour! - My husband and I had a wonderful time visiting Beijing and this hike was the highlight. Our tour guide, Stephen, did a fantastic job leading us and was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Our driver, Mr. Xu, was fabulous as well. The hike itself was beautiful and it was great to get to see the unrestored part as well as the restored.

A Great Way to visit the Great Wall - Jiankou to Mutianyu - I booked a day-trip (app 8h door-to-door) that started with a hike up to the old wall at Jiankou followed by a walk on the renovated (and touristic) wall at Mutianyu. I very much enjoyed experiencing both parts, especially the first stretch away from the crowd. Excellent service with Catherine Lu from online booking to follow-up prior to departure. My guide JUSTIN deserved a 5-star: Professional, knowledgeable, friendly and good english. He made sure I was having a wonderful day in many details and including sharing a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.

The best way to experience the Great Wall! - I had the most amazing time on this tour and I was so grateful to my guide, Nico, for making it incredibly interesting and special. Since I was alone, I really enjoyed getting to spend the day talking to him and I learned so much about him and his country. The driver was also great and I felt very safe and comfortable. Lunch was so delicious and it was nice to share this meal together after the hike. I never could have had this magical experience of endless views and tranquility with a group tour. I was very impressed by the entire day and would definitely recommend this experience!

If you're thinking about it just do it! - So glad we decided to go with this tour. Our guide Steven was incredibly warm and helpful. Having studied English and History, Steven gave us an insightful view of Chinese history, culture and current day life. Thank you Steven - you've been fantastically funny, kind and knowledgeable. The Jiankou to Mutianyu walk is not to be missed. For the first half of the walk we had the mountain to ourselves and felt ontop of the world. It was amazing to see the old, original and unrestored brickwork. The first part of the walk was a little steep and rocky but it doesn't last long and the view at the top is completely worth it. There are some mosquitos but September was a fantastic time to visit with blue skies and few insects. Mutianyu section was busy with all sorts of tourists from families to elderly and couples. After the MTY section we took the Toboggan down, which was really good fun! Lunch was at a local farmer restaurant away from the tourist attractions. The food was delicious and wasn't from a preset or tourist menu - Steven helped us choose dishes depending on our tastes. We also got some local pointers from him for places to go back in Beijing. Overall, we had an incredible day! Thank you again Steven!
